EOV BAG SALE RULES
Often, but not always, we decide to hold a bag sale during the last hour on the last day of our estate or moving sales. If a bag sale is planned it will be noted in our pre-sale advertising on our website and the other sites, print ads and social media that we typically use to market our sales.
Here’s how they work…
1) 30 minutes prior to the bag sale we will begin announcing to shoppers and to people just entering that the bag sale will begin at X time.
2) 15 minutes prior to the start of the bag sale we will clear the house and outbuildings so that we can organize what is and what is not part of the bag sale.
3) Another reason we ask you to step out is to create a “level shopping field” where no one can start stockpiling items in anticipation of the start of the bag sale.
4) At the advertised time, typically 3 pm, we will re-admit you and give you a bag.
5) You may take and fill as many bags as you desire at $5 each.
6) You may only use the bag(s) that we provide.
7) We will designate and inform you of certain items and areas that are off limits and not included in the bag sale.
8) The items you choose for your bag must only come from areas we designate for the bag sale
9) The items you are purchasing must fit inside the bag, within reason.
10) The items you are purchasing must fit into a single bag – no double bagging allowed.
11) We may look through your bags at the check-out tables.
12) We reserve the right to remove items from the bag if they were not supposed to be part of the bag sale.
13) It is a big job to organize for the bag sale in 15 minutes and we appreciate your patience as you wait.
14) Occasionally, we miss an item or two that should have been, but wasn’t, put in the off-limits area. We appreciate your understanding when that item is the one you put in your bag, and we must remove it.
15) Remember: everything that is not part of the bag sale is still on sale! Items UNDER $100 are 50% off, sometimes more, even if they are not part of the bag sale.
16) Items priced AT or OVER $100 are things we negotiate on during the last hour of the sale, or they are items for which you may place a bid.
About the Shirley Estate Sale…
We’re honored to assist the Shirley family with their estate sale in this classy, old home of treasures and over 60 years of shared memories. They’ll keep the memories forever and release the treasures out into the world to bring pleasure to others. We know you’ll find something very special here.
Art and Music
The original art we are offering for sale includes two oils by famous Swedish America painter, Knute Heldner, (1877 – 1952) and one by his wife, Collette Pope Heldner (1902-1990). He migrated to America around 1902. He lived in Duluth until 1934 and then he eventually made his home in New Orleans. He was married to Collette Pope Heldner who was also a painter and his one-time student from a school in Minnesota. His style was modern expressionistic, as was hers, also. See the link to our art catalog to view all the works for sale.
The baby grand piano that most of the family practiced piano lessons on is available for sale, too. It is made by the Cable Piano Company of Chicago and has been well-cared for over the years.
Furniture, Décor and Clocks
Oh, my goodness! We love the gorgeous detailed, arched mirror in the living room. We call it Hollywood Regency style and it’s got swag! And swag designs on it, too. More furniture pieces of note include a Victorian settee, a matched pair of parlor chairs, a combination bookcase drop front desk and a mahogany piano style drop front desk, a tea cart and a sewing cabinet, as well as a round, mid-century dining table with six chairs and additional leaves. The two with matching sideboards are wonderful in their simple detail and small scale. You’ll find dressers, might stands, twin and queen head boards, a cedar chest and rocking chairs. We love the different vintage clocks around the house and the Herschede Colonial floor clock is a true antique with provenance and maintenance history, too. From the basement, to the sun room, living room, dining room, second floor bedrooms and out to the garage, you’ll find numerous hard-back and upholstered “project” chairs, and a smaller scale sectional for sale, too.
Check out the mantle where you will find a beautiful pair of French Sèvres porcelain urn vases set with Ormolu on the arms and mounted bases. More beautiful décor pieces include a pair of antique Victorian ruby glass, Lustre drop vases, several crystal drop candelabras and sterling silver pieces and flatware. Hummel figurines, religious artifacts, figurines and pictures and a good collection of cups and saucers are in the living and dining rooms. Another special group of items are the 1920’s era Currier Winter Scenes plates made by Adams England and distributed by B. Altman Stores. Very special! On the second floor you’ll also find a room full of your favorite styles of crystal, glassware.
Household and Specialty Items
There are beautiful linens in one of the second-floor bedrooms, as a room with electronics, including several items specifically for people with low vision. Some items of note are clocks that talk and a Freedom Scientific Scanning and Reading Appliance (SARA). The butler’s pantry, kitchen, basement and garage all contain various kitchenware, utensils and china.
Apparel and Accessories
A large display of fine and fashion jewelry is on display near the check out, and the master bedroom contains a closet of super cute vintage dresses, skirts, furs and nightgowns. Another closet and two rolling racks are full of high quality current style women’s wear and footwear, many pieces by Coldwater Creek, Ralph Lauren, Dansko and Crocs, to drop just a few names. We put a few good pieces of menswear out in the garage because we know you guys won’t look at it otherwise!
Garage and Basement
These are always fun hunting grounds and you won’t be disappointed here! The garage contains some of the typical lawn and garden items – shovels, rakes, hand tools, lawn and garden care items, but also two extension ladders, a Honda lawn mower and a big, ole brass bed, too. The basement has tools and hardware, shabby chic, loads of vases and pots, a whole wall of holiday décor and a large, super cute doll house full of miniatures!
It’s a great sale, friends! You’ll be so bummed if you miss it!
