Klassen family sale in Southwest Rochester (past the History Center):  

Dr. Rudolph “Rudi” and Frieda Klassen met in a German class at the University of Manitoba and quickly fell in love, marrying in 1956. After stops in Manitoba, Alberta, North Dakota, Minneapolis and Tunisia, the family landed in Rochester in 1969 after Rudi accepted a position in Pediatric Orthopedics at Mayo. At Mayo, Rudi was highly respected in both clinical practice and teaching, winning Mayo Physician of the Year in 1996 and multiple Teacher of the Year awards over the course of his career. Frieda was a teacher by training and even went back to school after their four boys left home just to show that she could! Outside of their careers, both Rudi and Frieda enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors. After nearly 60 years of marriage, Frieda passed away in 2015 and Rudi joined her in 2022.
