Estate Auction at Historic Oakwood 1834
Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 • 10 a.m. Both Days
101 Leonard Avenue in Fayette, Missouri 65248

We are proud to present to you the estate collection of Jasper and Elizabeth Means at public auction. Mr. and Mrs. Means both lived well into their 90s and enjoyed the blessing of staying at their beloved home Oakwood for all of their days.

With their passing comes the increasingly rare opportunity for a historically significant on-site auction replete with both items original to the premises and many, many others gathered by Mr. and Mrs. Means from similar settings around Howard County.

Oakwood, the Abiel Leonard House, built in 1834 is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places for good reason. As one of the earliest surviving brick I houses in mid-Missouri, it sits high on a hill overlooking the town of Fayette and is complimented by a smoke house with matching brick openwork, two domestic help cottages of the period, the original matching brick beehive cellar, an ice house and a large wood barn. After forty years of care by Jasper and Elizabeth, the home and grounds are beautiful as are the Furnishings, Art and Antiques which must now be sold. This will be a large and unusual offering. Make plans now to attend!

AUCTIONEERS NOTE: Believe it or not, this is only a partial listing! The home consists of four levels filled with Furnishings, Tools, Household, Antiques and Art. The big red barn out back is stacked with furniture and primitives and the rafters are hung with chairs and architectural items. Near the barn are large stacks of rough cut walnut lumber air dried over many years. There are tons of items yet to be discovered that will be impossible to list before sale time. Better make plans now for Friday the 24th and Saturday the 25th so you don't miss out on something great. We'll have quality concessions, tents and shade trees for you and the yard will be in full bloom.
