We are excited to invite you to this fabulous event!  It is a moving sale for Randy and Veronica McDonnell, which includes many items from the Estate of Sanford N. McDonnell (1922-2012) [Randy's father] , former Chairman and CEO of McDonnell Douglas.  Aviation collectibles, historical items, sterling, wrist and pocket watches, beautiful furniture, some antiques, patio furniture and much more is offered.

Below is just a SAMPLE of the items for sale.  You will get so much more information by clicking on each photo and reading its description.  We have all learned so much while conducting the necessary research to stage and price this sale, and we are looking forward to sharing it with you.

PLEASE do not enter the neighborhood until 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. on Sunday as this is a private area.  We will open promptly at 9:00 on Saturday and 10:00 on Sunday.

Two parking attendants will be able to assist you with where to park.  Please obey the NO Parking signs and do NOT block resident driveways or mail boxes.  Frontenac Police will be patrolling the area and will not hesitate to "consult" with you.

-Model of Variable Stability Jet Fighter-Circa 1973; and a Piasecki ZV-8P/given by Fred Piiasecki to Randy McDonnell; and a McDonnell first flying catapult (Modified CH-54A Sky-crane) with cargo box and small cannon that goes in the cargo box.Collectibles in Kitchen:  The knife on the left has a canvas sheath.  It is a World War I Marine Knife, inscribed 1918, and made by the Plumb Company in Philadelphia.  The canvas sheath was made by the Brauer Brothers and still has its "water drip" intact.     The knife on the right is a World War II  trench knife and has a black metal sheath.  It was made by the V&N Company of  Hungary.
Collectibles in Kitchen:  Photo is associated with the  "54th Fighter Squadron Fightin' Leopards.. Once a Leopard Always a Leopard... 1940-1996."  The mat has signatures of the surviving members of the 54th Fighting Squadron.Collectibles in Kitchen:   Left:  RARE Book/FIRST Edition:  CHARIOTS FOR APOLLO/National Aeronautics and Space Administration, 1979
-This is a history of APOLLO, America's  program to land men on the moon and get them safely back to the earth.  In May 1961, President Kennedy gave the signal for planning and developing the machines to do just that. The book describes the decisions and actions of men and women that led to the creation and operation of the complex machines associated with Apollo.  The book on the right:  "AIRPOWER in Three Wars" by General William W. Momyer, USAF, RET., 1978, is dedicated to "all those brave airmen who fought their battles in the skies for control of the air in World War II, Korean and Vietnam."  It is inscribed:
"To Sandy McDonnell, a long time in the writing
but necessary to tell the story of airpower.
Spike Momyer 6/14/78"
-It includes a personal typewritten letter (June 15,
1978) to Sandy McDonnell from Momyer. Collectibles in Kitchen:  Book titled "JUMP JET" is
signed by over 80 Attendees of the Award Ceremony honoring "Sanford N. McDonnell" for his
contribution to Anglo-American aerospace, September, 1992.Collectibles in Kitchen:  This plaque was presented to Sandy McDonnell by General Kim Sung Yong, Chief of State, on behalf of the Royal Korean Air Force.  (Date is unknown.)  The crown in the glass case on the right has a plaque: "Chumn-Chung Gold Crown, Old Silla (5-6 century A.D.), National Treasure N. 188, Korea, Size 1/3 (actual)." It is a 24K gold plated replica.
Collectibles in Kitchen: Book:  SWISSAIR, Copyright 1986
-This book was presented to Sandy McDonnell
by the Chairman of Swissair.
-It has colorful drawings of planes as well as
overlay drawings of different angles of that plane 
-It is written in German, English, and French 
-It is inscribed:
"Dear Sandy,
This book,-fresh off the press-is a vivid
reminder of the important role that 
McDonnell-Douglas airplanes played during
the first 50 years of Swissair's history.

-The book measures 20" long x 10-1/2" tall. 
Collectibles in Kitchen:  An authentic Olympics Torch
was carried by Sandy McDonnell in St. Louis for the 1984 Olympics Ceremony (XXIIIrd Olympiad) which was  held in Los Angeles.  The storage case + pamphlet are included with the  22" tall torch.
Note:  This is a great piece of history to hang on the wall.  A torch wall mount can be purchased on ebay.
Collectibles-in Kitchen:    In 1962, the NASA Mercury Spacecraft was manned by John Glenn, a former NASA pioneer, and the first American to orbit the Earth (he did three orbits).  These are four separately priced items that are a tribute to Mercury's trip in space:  A Mercury capsule model and astronaut is in the plastic cube (its box is behind it); the Mercury shuttle; a photo of the Mercury shuttle; and a brochure autographed by astronaut John Glenn.Collectibles-in Kitchen:   Photograph of Sandy McDonnell (right) with McDonnell employee in front
of a "Spirit of St. Louis" replica, dated May 21, 1967.  (This may be the airplane replica that hangs in the St. Louis Airport.) In looking at the employee's badge thru a loop, his name appears to be:  "Terry Clark."

Collectibles-in Kitchen:  Framed photo (8-1/2" x 10-1/2") is a YC-15 airplane which won a competition
against Boeing's YC-14 and led to McDonnell Douglas winning the C-17 program which is now the backbone of the AIR MOBILITY COMMAND (AMC)
of the U.S. Air Force.  Today, AMC flies all military, humanitarian and VIP flights for the United States. 
That includes the secure transporting of the U.S. 
President's limousine, helicopter, tanks, etc. from
one site to another when the President travels. 
The President cannot use any other vehicles  supplied by another entity.
Collectibles-in Kitchen:   This plague and photo album are sold as a SET.  The photo album includes numerous black/white photos of Sandy McDonnell's
visit to Viet Nam, including DaNang and Saigon.
He wrote descriptions under many of the photos.
The plaque was presented to Sandy McDonnell on the occasion of his visit to the "Phantom Bases
in South East Asia" from the McDonnell Phantom Tigers. 
Collectibles in Kitchen:  Alamogordo, New Mexico, 1945: First Atomic Explosion.  The sand in the desert turned into glass with the explosion.   A chunk of the desert "sand" is encapsulated in the small piece shown above the photo.  This test was the culmination of the "Manhattan Project."Collectibles-Kitchen:  Various Gemini (NASA-McDonnell) spacecraft documents surround a Gemini space shuttle model and an encased actual piece of the Gemini launch pad.  The lucite disc states:   "Space History Complex 19 Gemini Launch Pad."Collectibles-kitchen:  these are not your everyday envelopes!!!!  The top seven are postmarked "Cape Canaveral February 20, 1962."  The second one is an Apollo 15 is postmarked "Kennedy Space Center, July 26, 1971."  The third one is a letter to Randy McDonnell from his mother and postmarked "Kennedy Space Center, April 2, 1981."  And the bottom four envelopes postmarked "Huntington Beach, CA May 13, 1985," each contains a letter from L.C. Rayburn (McDonnell Douglas Astronautics) commemorating the 25th anniversary of the first flight of the Delta launch vehicle from Pad17, Cape Canaveral, Florida" in 1960.Collectibles-in Kitchen:   This vintage pictorial measures 16" x 20."  It shows the early Settlers of Bureau County, Illinois.  On the back, it is written in pencil:  "Early settlers of Bureau County, Illinois.  Chief Shabbona (center photo) was the Indian Chief who was kind to the settlers. Grandfather Jay gave him a high silk hat which he prized very highly.  Once, when the hostile Indians were coming and the guys had to flee to the fort, the hat, which had
been given to Grandmother Jay for safe-keeping, was left behind and was destroyed along with everything else in the house. Grandmother Jay said the hardest thing she ever had to do was to tell the Chief that his hat was gone!
"The dates under the picture dates when the settlers came to the county.  Grandfather Jay built the first house in Peoria, Ill."  (It is believed this is from Randy McDonnell's maternal side of the family.)    Collectibles-in Kitchen:  Trench Art:  A vintage (1974) 10" tall artillery shell case was turned in to a piece of art by Brother Mel (Vianney Catholic High School).  Collectibles in Kitchen:  The top pistol is real but "as is" (butt is missing).  It is a late 1700's SINGLE shot flintlock "boarding pistol." It was explained to me that perhaps the pirate would fire one shot at the intruder boarding the ship but then use the butt of the gun to hit the other intruders (that is probably how the butt got broken!). The other two guns and knives are decorative but would look great hanging on a wall!Collectibles-Kitchen:  There are over 20 of these books:  "Much May Be Made of a Scotsman:  The Story of McDonnell Douglas," by Sanford N. McDonnell.Collectibles-Kitchen:  This "bucket" is made of a tire (perhaps an airplane tire?).  The treads and wording can be seen on the inside.  Whoever would have thought!Collectibles-in Kitchen: One of the two cases displays collectibles and sterling, as well as glass knife rests  and other items.  Some closer photos are coming up.Collectibles-in Kitchen:  On the top left is an antique oval ivory bust of British Explorer "James Cook" (1728-1779) in a wooden frame .  He discovered and charted New Zealand and Great Barrier Reefs off Australia.  Its estimated age is 1780-1820.  Next is an antique whale tusk ladle with an actual coin as the bowl.  On the right is an antique carved oval frame ("as is").  On the bottom is a French "Pocket" Icon which shows Byzantine influence.  As shown open, it measures 6" x  6" and its hinges are made of rolled iron.  Its estimated age is circa 1680.
Collectibles-in Kitchen:  Two signed [2002] JAY STRONGWATER items (compact with lizard and a photo frame) flank a bronzed Art Deco  "Universal Transportation" advertisement of a nude woman holding up an airplane.  On the bottom is an amber paperweight with intaglio fish design.Collectibles-Kitchen:  A vintage 1960s-1970s "Perpetually Yours" perfume bottle by Rolex and Swissair is in its original case.  Also shown are three watches.  The one on the left is a 1920's Deco 14K gold "TURLER" open face pocket (OFP) watch (complete movement) with Arabic numbers.  The one on the right is quite RARE.  It is an antique 14K gold "E. MATHEY" hunter case #26679[chronograph] Minute Repeater pocket watch with a clear glass inside bezel that covers the mechanics.  When a slide lever is slid on the watch case, the timepiece rings out the time through a series of chimes. A minute repeater strikes out the hour, quarter hour, and minutes.  Such a watch may have been used by a gentleman who wanted to discreetly know the time without pulling his watch out of his pocket; or when it was dark, one could "hear" the time; or perhaps a blind person used it.  The Mathey is inscribed: "L.W Cherry, Little Rock, Ark, Feb. 16, 1907." The middle watch is 18K gold from the 1920's and is a "JaCollectibles-in Kitchen:  Numerous medals, tokens, knives and collectibles are to the left of a variety of "Conquistadores Del Cielo" ("Conquerors of the Sky") historical items.  The CDC is the most prestigious club in aviation, consisting of just the

Collectibles/Kitchen:  Aircraft related items include tokens, tie bars and tie pins.  In the middle section is a collection of watches.  Collectibles/Kitchen:  Numerous sets of sterling stems, candlesticks, salt/pepper shakers, and small TIFFANY sterling bowl are among a silver-plate bun warmer in a shell design (closer photo follows).  Note:  all sterling has been weighed and is priced ABOVE scrap value.Collectibles/Kitchen:  The silver-plate bun warmer is now open to show the inside grill which keeps the rolls in place.Foyer:  This antique tall case mahogany clock is American, probably late 1700's.  Clockmaker noted is Abel Stowe, Worcester, Massachusetts.  The clock is 8'  3" tall x 21-l/2" wide x 10-l/2 deep.  It is a magnificent antique!  Closer photos follows.  The column bases are fluted with brass decorations.  The pendulum door has a top arch design.Foyer:  Three brass finials and fretwork adorn the top of the bonnet, and a moon phase and hemispheres decorate the clock face.  (Note:  the second hand is missing.)Foyer:   The side of the clock bonnet has a small glass door in to which you can see the clock's inner workings.Foyer:  This brass hat/coat hall tree is 5' 7" tall.  Its base depicts lion heads and lion paws.  Living Room:  This is an overview of the living room  Closer photos are coming up.Living Room:  This sectional was brought up from the lower level to make it easier for the buyer of this beautiful two-piece contemporary item to move it upon purchase.  The longer piece has two arms and measures 7'  10" long; the shorter piece has one arm and measures 4' 10" wide.  The blue/tan floral rug coordinates well with the sectional.  It measures 7'  8"  x 10'  10."Living Room:  Various dishes are displayed including:  Bavaria Schuman "Forget Me Not;" Theodore Haviland Limoge Floral "Jewel" two-handle soups and under-plates; WORCESTER 
gold & white china; and more.
We set the dining room table with some of the Worcester gold and white china to show you its elegant simplicity.  Waterford and brass hurricanes are also displayed.Living Room: At the fireplace are:  a classic mirror adorned with garlands and "x" ribbons (38" wide x 31" tall); a pair of WATERFORD crystal/brass candleholders; Vienna Austria figurine of Lipizzaner Stallion and rider; a decorative brass/mesh fireplace screen; and a brass woman with hoop skirt fireplace broom cover.Living Room:  The antique STAFFORDSHIRE Berslum, England flow blue is priced out.  Available are:  dinner plates, salad plates, soup bowls, covered tureens, platters, gravy, cream and sugar, butter pats, cups & saucers. We set the dining room table with the antique Burslem, England Staffordshire flow blue china so you could see how beautiful it is and the quantity.  Living Room:  A sweet floral print in carved frame has a total measurement of 17-l/2" x 19-l/2."   The art light is included.  (The painting was originally purchased at BAKER ODDS & ENDS.) Living Room:  The classic demi-lune table has three legs, brass embellishments, and a unique painted top (see next photo).  It measures 34" wide x 17" deep x 31-l/2" tall.Living Room:  This is view of the interesting painted top of the demi-lune table. Living Room:  The beautiful antique secretary is a real show-stopper! It would look great in any room of the house including the foyer!  Closer photos follow. The measurements are:  42" wide x 24" deep x 83" tall. Living Room:  The antique secretary is now open to reveal the interior.   Notice the two adjustable upper shelves over nine "pigeon holes."  Three narrow shallow drawers separate the upper section from the lower section [which has a total of five small drawers on each side of a small middle door].  The fall front writing surface is above three drawers with bracket feet supporting this magnificent piece.Living Room:  Here is a closer view of he interior pigeon holes and sets of drawers.              Shhh....the center mirrored section with small door has a secret compartment!Living Room:  Here you can see the inside of the secretary and how the shelves are adjustable.  Each shelf can pull out and then be inserted to a different height.  This gives you some idea of the age.Living Room: This antique desk's top flips open, as shown with one side now flipped.  The drawer has a pencil ledge.  There are actually two knobs on each side of the desk, but only one drawer.Dining Room:  The elegant banded table with "inlaid" diamond patterns measures 72" X 44" and includes two skirted 15" leaves and custom magnetic pads.  The eight chairs (two arm and six side) are priced with the table.  A closer photo of one of the chairs is coming up.Dining Room:  This is one of the two brass footed pedestals supporting the dining table.  Notice that the black fluted columns match the black rim of the table skirt.  Carved medallions are at various sections of the table.  Dining Room:  This is one of a eight HEPPLEWHITE-style chairs (two arm chairs + six side chairs).  They are priced with the dining table. Dining Room:  A classic Oriental rug in red, blue and cream measures 9'  2"  x 12"  6" (including fringe).Dining Room: This elegant sideboard has a black marble top, seven drawers and two side doors, which give you lots of storage!  It measures 72" wide x 20" deep  x 36" tall.  Dining Room:  This piece was brought up from the lower level to make it easier for the purchaser to remove.  The wooden cabinet has a barn-door on the left and three drawers on the right.  The barn door slides to the right to reveal three interior shelves.  This is a great storage piece!  It was formerly used to store electronics and was placed below a wall mounted TV but would also make an interesting kitchen peninsula. It measures 62" wide  18" deep x 42" tall.  The large stag horn silver-plate bowl filled with various balls (e.g., bocce, pool, bingo)is also for ale.  It is flanked by silver-plate chargers and a set of six large crystal dessert glasses.Dining Room:  The bird painting with frame and art light measures 21" x 25."  It was originally purchased at BAKER ODDS & END.Dining Room:  This richly embellished black and gold gown as quite a story!  Years ago, McDonnell Douglas sold some planes to the former ruler King  Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia (now deceased).  When the King's son Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud visited with the McDonnells, he gave this gown to Pris McDonnell as a gift of his appreciation for hosting him.  The next photo shows one of the "sleeves" extended.
Dining Room:  The right "sleeve" of the gown is now extended to show you the size of this piece.Dining Room:  This beautiful vintage Thai Burmese "Kalagna" wall hanging was elaborately hand embroidered. The rich intricate thread work shimmers with hundreds of tiny sequins and metal beads, as well as the tiny metallic threads interwoven with cotton threads. It has a velvet background  The Burmese figures are each elaborately designed and stuffed for a three-dimensional effect.  It measures 5' wide x 33-l/2" tall.Family Room:  Two identical LEXINGTON leather Chesterfield-style sofas face a custom made leopard ottoman.  Closer photos follow.  Family Room:  This is one of the two LEXINGTON Chesterfield-style leather sofas.  Notice the tufted tight back, two seat cushions, gently curved arms, and nail-head trim.  The sofa rests on wooden legs and measures 86" wide with a 35" tall back.  Each sofa is priced individually.  Family Room:  The custom made leopard fabric ottoman is on casters and measures 61" x 36" x 16" tall.Family Room:  The hearth displays several items including a pair of 28-l/2" all brass cathedral candlesticks, a copper horn, a 21" tall concrete fox, and two bellows. Family Room:  Two HITCHCOCK chairs (priced individually) flank a four-drawer serpentine cherry chest.  The chest measures 48" wide x 23" deep x 35" tall.   Two signed elk figures are better shown in the next photo.  The silver-plate deer head bowl and tray are priced separately.  Family Room:  Two signed elk figures are part of the WILDLIFE COLLECTION by artist Frank Dougherty.  The sculptures are metal on a ceramic  base with real dry flowers imitating bushes.  Each one is 15" tall; the oval base measures 8" X 15" to top of horns. They are priced individually. The painting is an original landscape by Ben Brontly.Family Room:  These are two of four available antique reverse-painted riding scenes. The dresser alone measures  47" wide x 23" deep x 33" tall, while the mirror measures  49" tall x 43" wide with a 9" wide base.   The antique  quadruple-plate is monogrammed and priced individually.
Master Bedroom-First Floor:  A vintage chaise lounge is upholstered in a neutral creamy gold fabric.  The chaise measures 53" long with a 34" tall back.  The wood fame is mahogany.  The pastel color Chinese carved rug measures 8'  1"  x  10'  10."Master Bedroom-First Floor:  A child's size painted chifferobe measures 38: wide x 19" deep x 65" tall.Master Bedroom-First Floor:  This is the inside of the  child's size painted chifferobe.  Master Bedroom-First Floor:  This six-drawer antique English "side-lock" chest is also known as a "Wellington dresser."   The right panel is hinged and opens like a door to reveal a lock (see the next photo).  They were named "Wellington Dressers"  after Arthur Wellesley, first duke of Wellington who reportedly had a side-lock chest he carried on his military campaigns.  They are also known as “boarding house dressers” because the side lock could protect the contents from residents of some of the less respectable residences. Some were made in the U.S. but most are of English origin.  This one measures 42" wide x 20" deep x 55" tall.
Master Bedroom-First Floor:  Now you can see the long narrow hinged panel on the right side of the English "Wellington Chest" when the panel is opened.Master Bedroom-First Floor:  Crystal stemware, porcelain plates, silver-plate, WATERFORD "Ashworth" gravy, oval dish and cream and sugar; and WATERFORD "Overture" pattern stems, vases and bowls are all displayed.  Master Bedroom-First Floor-Bath:  This set of custom made queen size toile bedding looks so much better in person!  The bedspread, two European size shams, and the two lilac pillows are priced as a SET.  The colors are a subtle lilac and green.  The two moss green pillows on the right are priced separately.Landing-Second Floor:  This antique (circa 1890-1910) Victorian flip-top/mahogany game table is shown with the top folded.  Notice the elegantly carved details on the pedestal and legs with claw feet. In this position it measures 36" wide x 17" deep x 30" tall.  The top flips open and can be displayed with the leaf against the wall OR it can be turned to create a game table.  The game pieces can be stored in the table cavity.  Another photo follows.Landing-Second Floor: The flip-top table is now flipped open and rotated to create a game table.Landing-Second Floor:  An antique Asian-style trunk is heavily carved on all sides and has a large brass escutcheon.  The trunk measures 39-l/2" wide x 21-l/2" deep  x 21-l/2" tall.Landing-Second Floor:  A channel back settee with crewel upholstery measures 66" wide with a 34" tall back. Bedroom #1-Upstairs:  A vintage three piece bookcase can be re-configured any way you want!  Each eagle statute is priced separately.Bedroom #1-Upstairs:  A deep grey recliner is like-new!  To the right is a cherry TV stand with open shelf and one drawer. McKenzie, 1915, but this is a replica;  and a Boy Scouts of America baseball (2014) is in a plastic case.Bedroom #1-Upstairs:  Two large paintings of aircraft carriers and an airplane were done by Randy McDonnell when he was 14 years old.  A bust of Randy is on the column pedestal.  Also shown are several photos of planes and one aircraft carrier.Bedroom #2-Upstairs:  This room is a treasure trove of various McDonnell-Douglas awards, books, VHS, DVDs and more!  The round clock hanging on the wall is a photo of an APACE AH-64 (McDonnell); below it are several related books on the APACHE.  In the corner is a jacket with a patch: GEMINI AIR CARGO.  The framed prints below are of the same  plane but for different branches of service (i.e., Navy, Marine, etc).  The dark blue McDonnell Douglas rug is also for sale.Bedroom #2-Upstairs: Three standing book displays are for sale as are the books in them.  The photos on the shelf, the hanging wall plaques and the rounder of McDonnell Douglas related sweaters, jackets and Polo shirts are all priced for you!  The closet across the room (not shown) has numerous McDonnell Douglas caps, mugs, glasses, and other related items.Bedroom #3-Second Floor:  Two matching twin vintage beds are priced separately from the elegant toile linens and mattress sets.  Each bed has a headboard, footboard and side rails.  The pale blue/brown toile twin-size bedding includes duvets, pillows, and coordinating bed skirts.   The petite vintage four-drawer commode in between the beds is perfect for those small areas where you can use some storage space.  This one measures 30" wide x  16" deep x 31" tall. Bedroom #3-Upstairs:  The twin mattress set on the left bed is a SERTA-PEDIC.
