Weekly Thursday Evening Kansas City Estate and Consignment Auction

With around 1,200 preview photos this week, you might want to give yourself a little extra time to look through them. This is easily one of the fullest and most interesting auctions we’ve put together in the past few weeks — not because of one or two headline pieces, but because there is good stuff tucked into seemingly every corner of the building.

We’ll start with more gold, sterling and other jewelry, coins, vintage toys and games, NIB vintage toys and vintage auto models, Magic and Pokémon cards, vintage video games and systems, knives, musical instruments, vinyl records, music memorabilia, autographs, sports memorabilia, artwork, signs and advertising, cameras and optics, vintage Halloween and more holiday. clocks and watches, lamps and lighting, glass, porcelain, china, uranium glass, crockery and plenty more. There’s also an unusually large amount of Elvis memorabilia, along with James Dean material, vintage aprons and sewing-related items, stamps and covers, photos and ephemera, auto-related diecast and other automotive pieces.

Some of the more unusual material deserves a closer look. We have some fantastic architectural salvage saved from demolition, chainsaw-carved wooden art, more shortwave and radio-related pieces — including quite a few pieces which appear to have come from WWII-era aircraft — plus camping and outdoor gear, fishing lures and related items, beer and liquor advertising, and furniture including more Brno chairs. Then there’s a very unusual tall stand-up bar with a hand-painted front. I’m not even going to attempt to adequately describe it here. You need to see the pictures.

And then we get to what we keep casually calling “tools,” which really doesn't explain it. Yes, there are tools, but there are also buckets and tubs of hardware, casters, cords, huge pieces of good rope - not like rope you can find at ACE in Westport - like ROPE you'd tie up a yacht with, and seemingly every sort of useful garage/shop item you want even though you probably don't need it. We even have massive buckets of golf balls ready for somebody willing to clean them up and put them back into circulation. Add two tankless hot-water heaters and a pair of heavy-duty Siemens disconnect switch boxes — the sort of commercial/industrial equipment worth looking up before you dismiss it — and this whole section becomes a treasure hunt of its own.

There are old embroidered samplers, more sewing material, outdoor gear, advertising, collectibles, household pieces, new-in-box merchandise, practical stuff, weird stuff, decorator pieces, resale material and things I haven't even mentioned because at some point 1,200 photos do a better job than I can. This is one of those weeks when walking through the room keeps producing another “Wait, what’s THAT?” every few feet.

Collectors will find plenty to dig through. Resellers should probably look twice. Decorators and designers have some genuinely unusual pieces to work with. And if you simply enjoy wandering through an old-school live auction full of things you weren't expecting to find, this is a particularly good week to come see us.
