The elegant twin doors highlight adjustable glass shelves and one fixed wood shelf on the inside. The lower section has two more doors and shelves for additional storage. Did you know that this style of chair was developed in England in the 1600's where cold weather made the roaring fireplace the gathering spot of the house? The original style was created to keep women warm as they lounged in the wingback chairs to protect their upper chests from cold drafts. The design gained popularity in the early 1700's and eventually morphed from a wooden chair to one with upholstery. On the mantel are two red/gold urns with lids; attached to the wall [but easily removable] is a pair of brass/glass candle hurricanes.
