Description & Details

This is an eclectic sale with a variety of items for sale.  It is in the heart of Compton Heights--just a little bit east of the famous Magic Chef House on Russell.  Before we get into the sale details, I wanted you to know that the home is also for sale.  Here is a brief history:

The 4,900 square foot home was completed in 1895 by architect Theodore Link (architect of St. Louis Union Station) on behalf of owner Louisa Anheuser, sister-in-law of Lillian Anheuser who married Adolphus Busch of the Anheuser-Busch family.  Louisa had the house built for herself and her five children after her husband died.  Two of the children's weddings were actually held in the house.

The oak mantel in the parlor has a fancy carved "A" which represents the FIRST ANHEUSER logo (see last photo).  There is also a later "A" logo in the stained glass leading to the second floor and another "A" with an entwined "L" etched in the front door glass.  (NONE OF THOSE ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENTS ARE FOR SALE--they all belong to the house.)  The home is a 19th century three-story-2-l/2 bath Victorian with gorgeous foyer, parlor, sun porch, large dining room, updated kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, butler's pantry, butler's standing room off the dining room,  four bedrooms (including one updated master with bath), office nook, finished third floor + storage area + attic, main oak stairs, servant's stairs, hardwood floors as well as beautiful millwork and stained glass throughout the house (we covered much of the stained glass on the  main floor stairs landing to protect it while moving items), basement, courtyard, back yard, a three-car garage with carriage house/guest suite, and attached storage buildings outside.  The house will be on the market soon and is listed with ReMax Realtor Tyler Olsen.  Fliers announcing the house will be available at the sale, but there are no advance previews prior to the moving sale this weekend.

REMINDERS:

1) This Sunday is the beginning of DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME.  Be sure to put your clocks and watches one hour FORWARD, so you are not late for opening day on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. NEW TIME!

2) Payment:  Cash;  OR  Checks for purchases totaling $50+ (with a photo I.D. and TWO additional forms of identification).

Now, on to this fabulous moving sale opportunity:

(If it is raining, you will be covered by the front porch and portico.  We will also have a bin for your umbrellas, so you may want to label yours with masking tape.  Many items have been moved from the third floor to the second and first floors to make it easier for you.)

Looking for seating???  We've got it all.....from 1800's parlor sets to vintage hard-to-find former St. Louis ARENA seats to contemporary patio furniture!  Oh, and let us not forget the cool ball and claw foot free-standing vintage tub in the out building for when you want to lay down and soak rather than sit!!
