Asian Prints:

includes prints from the Edo period "tourist stops" to silk designs meant for kimono manufacturers.   Highlighted here, Japanese woodblock prints depicting women of idealized beauty--a genre called "bijinga." These women, draped in voluminous robes and adorned with golden hair pins, are subtly revealing themselves to the viewer.  Japanese woodblock printing remains a special part of not only Japan's artistic tradition, but the West's as well; impressionists like van Gogh, Monet, and Cassatt all incorporated elements of Japanese printmaking into their work. The enchanting "bijinga" remains an illuminating example of Japanese artistry, craftsmanship, and originality.

Native American:

features a fine collection of over 60 examples of Prehistoric Native American Pottery, most Mississippian and still intact. Examples include human and animal effigy vessels and friendship bowls.  Assorted jars and bowls include examples of Hempstead, Harleton, Belcher, Avery, Blakely, Quapaw, Punctate, Taylor and more.

African-American Book & Ephemera Collection of Lindsay Patterson (1934-2009):

Lindsay Waldorf Patterson was born 1934 and raised in Bastrop (LA), he graduated high school in Winston-Salem (NC).  After college and serving in the U.S. Army as a journalist, he embarked on a career as a writer, educator and African-American activist in New York City.  Throughout his life, he crossed paths with many globally influential persons, his correspondence with whom he valued and cherished.  Patterson’s library and collection, a portion of which is offered here, reveals a trove of personal correspondence with artists, authors and actors with whom he worked, socialized and admired including Jacob Lawrence, Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, Neil Degrasse-Tyson, James Earl Jones, Eartha Kitt, Toni Mirrison and Josephine Baker.
