Description & Details
Numbers will be handed out around 8:30 a.m. when we arrive.
The highlight of the sale is an original 1925 movie prop.
The original screen used movie prop ship used the 1925 classic black and white silent film Ben Hur. This is one of the original ships used in the classic sea battle scene between the Romans and Macedonians. No expense was spared in building these props for Fred Niblo. The Battle Scene was filmed in a small pool. The boat was repurposed for the 1959 remake of the Ben Hur Movie starring Charleston Heston. The ship is made of copper and aluminum. It's very highly detailed. The front of the vessel has a figural Wolf Head. Both ends of the boat have nice details. A shield wall runs along both sides of the hull. The boat has been outfitted with sails, oars, anchors, and people. The boat shows a wonderful patina. This is a true piece of Movie History. Ben Hur is a timeless classic movie. Most of these ships were destroyed during the battle scenes and left as partial hulls. This is one of the few that survived intact with all the highlights and details still on it—a true Museum Quality piece of history.
