Event Details

Elaine Willingham has been collecting Judy Garland and Wizard of Oz material since she was eight years old. 2014 marks the 75th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz and is a perfect time for a connected event such as this.  The vast collection includes many original autographs, dolls, books, glassware, toys, jewelry, framed posters, record albums, DVD's, CD's, magazines and MUCH more!

Highlights from the auction include the original MORE TO COME Wizard of Oz Artwork, from The Tonight Show, starring Johnny Carson, 1939 Ideal Dorothy Doll, 1940 Strike Up the Band Doll, one of Billie Burke's books signed Billie Burke Ziegfeld, a framed piece with two photos one signed Billie Burke 1939, the other signed Margaret Hamilton 1939.  The original 35th Anniversary poster signed by Jack Haley and Ray Bolger.  Many Munchkin autographs, an entire collection from 'The Harvey Girls', two 'Meet Me in St. Louis' dolls, and some Oz Spin-offs -- did you know two of the original Munchkins were also 'Little Oscar in the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile'? yes the idea was the brainchild of Munchkin Coroner Meinhardt Raabe who was the 1st Little Oscar and then, when OM decided that, like Santa, Little Oscar needed helper Little Oscar's, OM added Lollipop Boy Jerry Maren to the roster.  A short time later George Molchan (after being summoned by his long-time pal, Meinhardt Raabe) became one of the Little Oscar's which lasted over three decades.  Elaine's collection includes Jerry Maren's Little Oscar smock, a photo of with Mr. Oscar Mayer with and autographed by the four original Little Oscar's.

Elaine Willingham is one of the premiere collectors of Judy Garland and Wizard of Oz ephemera. Her collection is extensive and her knowledge of the two subjects enabled her to co-write the popular "Cooking in Oz: Kitchen Wizardry and a Century of Marvels from America's Favorite Tale" (Cumberland House Publishing). Elaine was instrumental in organizing some of the most successful Oz events in the 1990s involving the little actors who worked as Munchkins in the classic film, "The Wizard of Oz," including a reunion which took place at the famed Culver Hotel in Culver City, California. Entertainment Weekly called it "one of the best" film-fan events of 1997.

I've known Elaine Willingham both personally and professionally for approximately twenty-five years. During that time, we've worked together "in person" at countless Wizard of Oz and Judy Garland-related festivals, conventions, conferences, and events all over the country. When she wasn't actually producing some aspect of the gatherings on those occasions, she was an incremental part of the schedule or activities. Her interactions with attendees -- especially the surviving Munchkins, cast members, and others associated with the 1939 M-G-M Oz film -- was a welcome "given"; the participants liked and completely trusted Elaine, as did we all. Her mail-order and on-line businesses and newsletters brought her deserved high regard as a particularly reliable and common-sensical member of the greater "Oz family." In brief, she has earned the admiration and acknowledgement of all of the tens of thousands (or more) who collect or enjoy Oz -- or both.
