This sale represents the lifetime collection of Ruth Rechtlich. Her life was a journey filled with adventure. She grew up as a child in Germany during World War II (the family home being ultimately destroyed during a U.S. Allied bombing raid), immigrated with her family to Canada after the war via ocean freight ship. She met her future husband in Canada and they eventually moved to the US where they became naturalized citizens. Her husband was an engineer and supported the space program during the time of the Neil Armstrong launch. Their travels shifted toward working for overseas airlines. They first moved to Africa with their young family and eventually to the Middle East where they spent 18 plus years working/travelling around that part of the world plus Europe.

The personal contents for sale are an eclectic collection of items. The main attraction of this sale is the vast variety of rugs from around the world where the assortment of rugs ranges from kelims to tribal rugs to silk-on-silks (calling all oriental rug collectors out there ---> you'll love this collection). Other artifacts in this sale mostly represent purchases made during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.

Included in this sale:

  • Large collection of handmade vintage oriental rugs (e.g. kelims, saltbags, jollars, knotted pile prayer/persian rugs, etc.) - majority of the rugs would have been purchased as semi-antique rugs (30 to 40 years old) back in the 1980s so many would be considered mid-century rugs (all handwoven) - some of these rugs could have taken 6 months to complete (it's a dying art) - rug collectors dream
  • Fine glass crystal glass
  • Camera lens used on African Safaris
  • Lots of jewelery
  • Wooden artifacts - bowls, utensils, etc.
  • Vintage utility items (sewing machine, typewriter, etc.)
  • Included in this estate sale will be some vintage Barbie dolls for sale
