Description & Details
Estate Sale at the Historic Whitfield-Holmes House, Aberdeen, Mississippi
LQC Estates is pleased to announce an estate sale at the historic Whitfield-Holmes House in Aberdeen, Mississippi. Dating to circa 1856, this charming Italianate residence stands as one of Aberdeen’s memorable historic homes, with a layered story that reflects the architectural and social history of the region.
Originally associated with E.B. and Phereby McGuire and later John Abbot and Sarah Galloway, the property began as a modest mid-19th century dwelling, possibly a simple dogtrot house or Greek Revival cottage. In 1866, the home was purchased by Colonel Needham Hatch Whitfield and his wife, Anna Hill Whitfield. Colonel Whitfield, a physician and former Confederate army doctor, returned from the Civil War with little means but rebuilt his fortunes with determination. In the years that followed, he transformed the humble cottage into the handsome Italianate townhouse seen today.
The Whitfield-Holmes House is distinguished by its long, narrow windows, classic front veranda, slender chamfered porch columns, refined arches, central dormer, balustraded balcony, and exceptional walnut woodwork. The formal rooms retain beautiful Italianate-style fireplace mantels, lending the home an atmosphere of dignity, history, and Southern refinement. The old kitchen, believed by some to predate the main structure, was later attached to the house and still serves its original purpose.
This special estate sale will feature a curated offering of antiques, decorative arts, books, furnishings, household objects, and other estate contents drawn from a historic Aberdeen setting. Buyers can expect an appealing mix of traditional Southern material, decorative accessories, collectible books, period-style furnishings, art, china, glass, and objects suited for collectors, decorators, and historic home enthusiasts.
The sale offers a rare opportunity to purchase items from a property deeply connected to Aberdeen’s architectural heritage. Whether you are a collector of antiques, a lover of Southern history, or simply searching for distinctive decorative pieces with character, this estate sale promises a memorable experience in one of Aberdeen’s treasured historic homes.
LQC Estates invites bidders, collectors, decorators, and the public to attend this unique estate event at the Whitfield-Holmes House, where history, architecture, and fine estate contents come together in a remarkable setting.
