Description & Details

Living Estate Sale of Diane Smith on October 16-17, 2026, 9am to 3pm each day. This estate sale will be featured on estatesales.net and in several publications around Monroe County, keep your eyes open and continue to watch Facebook and Estatesales.net for updates and more photos as they are taken and become available. Diane is a native of Illinois and came to call Aberdeen home in 2014. She lost her husband years ago after a short illness and decided to follow her love of the Antebellum South to Aberdeen. She has one son Max and a daughter in law who live in Texas where he has been a Pharmacist for CVS for 13 years. Diane is not selling her historic home but simply downsizing her massive collection of antiques and collectibles She hasacquired from a half century of collecting these treasures while working at some of the most well known auction and tag sale companies in the South. Which shows from the unique items in her cherished collection

The estate sale will take place at her home Mon Chalet ca.1854 at 120 North Hickory Street in historic downtown Aberdeen. Mon Chalet has had 4 well known Residents in its life including its longest resident, Ada Ann McDearman a well known Socialite, church member and historian in Aberdeen. She purchased the home and began restoration and lived there until her death after fifty years in residence and retired from the Monroe County Courthouse House. Through these years the home was affectionately known as The Mcdearman house in her honor. A well known antique dealer Ron Locke from Columbus then purchased the home, and then Neil Palmer, a well known interior decorator from Amory called house home after coming to Aberdeen to work with his mentor John Dwight Stevens at Stevens Auction Company. After he purchased a home around the corner called McKinney college. Diane Smith purchased the home and has called it home ever since, and changed the name to its current marker as Mon Chalet. Through the years that these folks have called it home it has been featured on the Aberdeen Pilgrimage, Aberdeen Holiday Home Tour, hosted multiple civic and social events. It has also been featured in papers and publications around the state including Monroe County Magazine, mudd and Magnolias and once in Mississippi Magazine during Christmas some years ago.

It is difficult to say with certainty when Mon Chalet was constructed. John Dale is believed to have been the builder. We know that in 1854, Dale purchased the property with all buildings and improvements for the sum of eighteen hundred dollars and then sold the house and property to Mary McMillan for five thousand dollars in 1857.

It is a classic five-bay Greek Revival cottage. Mon Chalet features an elegant double front door with transom and flanking sidelights in period style. The central front gable with its fish scale shingles probably dates from the turn of the century and the fanciful millwork encasing the square pillars of the pent-roofed front porch is also a later addition. In spite of these changes the front elevation retains its mid-nineteenth century Greek Revival character. The deep architrave under the roofline, the simple classical window surrounds and the six over six double hung windows attest to its age and period. The residence was named for over fifty years in honor of Ada Ann until recent when known as Mon Chalet by its current owner. The house itself is an architectural treasure in Aberdeen and the treasures being sold during this magnificent sale which make great additions to anyone’s existing collection of both antiques and collectibles. We look forward to having us joining us at Mon Chalet during this great event
