Stevens Auction Company is pleased to announce the commission to offer at public auction a lifelong antique collection from the estate of the late Ms. Marietta McCarter of Columbus, Mississippi. This estate includes beautiful lamps, handmade Persian rugs, silver, crystal, china, original works of art, fine porcelains, rare collectibles, beautiful antique furniture and other fine home furnishings. Also sold will be the contents of one of Aberdeen’s finest old homes, known as the “Painted Lady,” built in 1880 and now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sexton. The couple is planning to retire and move to Europe.
In this same auction, we will be selling over one hundred items of Civil War memorabilia collected by three avid collectors. The auction will take place during the 150th Anniversary of The Battle of Okolona at the National Guard Armory, Saturday, February 22, at 3:30 p.m. CST.
This three day event will be a celebration dedicating the donated land on which the battle was fought, now becoming a national memorial. The battle will be reenacted by uniformed actors performing for the crowd; giant cannons will be fired as the battle itself plays out. Join hundreds of others for all kinds of activities from the Welcome Center. Walk the trails, visit the cemeteries and relive what took place. Admission is free for the reenactment. Go to our website for more information concerning the actual account of the battle between General Nathan B. Forrest’s Victory over the Union General William Sooy Smith.
The open house preview will be on Saturday, February 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. auction time. Pictures are continuously added, so please check back often for photos of the items to be offered and auction information. For information not found online or in our brochure, please call our office at (662) 369-2200 or e-mail us at stevensauction@bellsouth.net. For reenactment information only, call (662) 447-5913.
