*A “Hold Area” will be set up. Once items are purchased, the buyer may go out to retrieve boxes.

The Dabney Rare Book Collection comprises 1300-1400 books that Lucius Bryan Dabney Sr., his father Moncure Dabney and his son, Lucius Bryan Dabney, Jr. collected during their lifetimes. While most of the Books pre-date 1920; there are perhaps 100 other later imprints.
There are Book Catalogs where he traveled to New York and other points east and west buying books on the Founding Fathers, Americana, The Constitution, Lyman Draper, Rare Civil War Imprints, Imprints on Slavery, Mississippi Territorial Imprints from Natchez on Statues and Laws and other topics. Mr. Dabney also avidly collected Southwest and California Mission era early imprint books and dealt with The Dawson Bookshop, a California Company buying and selling books up until his death in 1967. His collection was known as the Belmont Americana Collection.
One portion of the online Catalog of photos comprises all of the Americana books contained in Mr. Dabney, Sr.’s Office which has been kept intact since 1967 until recently being moved into the conference room for this sale. There are approximately 700 to 750 books including Law titles.
Included in the Sale will be approximately 200 or so Manuscript Letters mostly from Vicksburg during the Civil War, but also approximately 15 or so from Territorial Natchez personalities and additionally a few from Louisiana. There are 4 binders of letters.
Territorial Manuscript for Mayors Court of Natchez 1803-1808, Store Ledger, 2 Case Dockets for Bar appearances in Warren County, Shields Cotton Book (Natchez)
There are many sets of Law books, entire 100 volumes of Law Reference, Many are nice leather bound; Historic Laws of Mississippi back to 1822, House and Senate Journals, some are Natchez and Jackson, MS Printers. Civil War era Legislative Laws, etc. Law books will be in one office and must be requested to see them.
Natchez items include large a 19th Century photo of downtown, plus smaller one, Natchez Letters, Territorial 1799 fragile document.
Framed engravings of Presidents, Currier and Ives framed prints, Historic Rare on the Mississippi Large original Currier and Ives.
Steamboat original Photos, Vicksburg Photos, A panoramic view of the River front.
The W. L. Balfour papers are selling as a Lot and contain 2 slave documents, a runaway notice, and other estate and plantation management materials.
Thus, there are many rare books; Names from Natchez and Vicksburg family libraries.
Please note there are books that are not photographed, totaling 1400 to 1500 books.
There are rare Sargent S. Prentiss signed framed letters, autographs, and documents.
Framed original Vicksburg photographs of the Riverfront Hills, houses & buildings.
Other Rare ca. 1990-1920 fine Engravings by Field, Rost and others.
Rare newspapers for Civil War years include 2 titles for Jackson, 2 titles for Natchez, 2 titles for Vicksburg, the Commercial Appeal, Canton, MS (has 82 issues), Brookhaven, MS, Port Gibson 2 titles for 1831 and 1812; half of a bound volume each. There are several out-of-state papers as well for this time period. There are file folder Group Lots of Natchez “Extras”, Woodville, MS, Vicksburg and other loose pages. Loose papers will be sold in Group Lots. See photos in 1800-1950 number range.
There will be several boxes of sleeved booklets including Miss. Law, Miss. Miscellaneous, Railroad, Advertising, Insurance, Religious (Episcopal), Civil War related, Miscellaneous paper, Early Almanacs, other paper miscellany. There will also be maps, some hanging, some rolled.
Leslie’s Magazine center illustrations for 1866, 1867 and 1868 will be sold in Group Lots.
Other items included are Retro stand Ashtrays, Ink wells, Pen Stands, 1 Brick from the Glass House, 2 Vicksburg Jugs, Masonic items, Bookends, Figures, Busts, Railroad Lantern, etc.
