2   An Unusual Chinese Cloisonne Bull
20th century, a cloisonne bull with black ground and blue, pink, and red enamel swirls all over, removable tail, brass ring fittings from nose to horns have a longevity knot, brass metal hooves, horns, and hair of tail, hollow to interior with large circular opening to the underside of belly.

includes an etching by a contemporary Japanese artist, signed in pencil in lower margin with date of 1969 and number 2 of a 10 edition, framed with mat, and a small ink painting of Kannon, signed Sesson with two characters and with urn seal with same, but doubtful it is by Shukei Sesson, seated with a bamboo vase besides her and a large halo behind her, painted surface is then applied to a larger backing paper, edges of both papers have applied gilt, framed with a mat, not examined outside of the frames.

Vernon Pratt was an associate professor of art at Duke University. A graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, Pratt enrolled at Duke in 1958 but finished his undergraduate and master's degrees at the San Francisco Art Institute. He returned to Duke in 1964 as a professor, a position he held until his untimely death in 2000. Pratt may be best known for creating the massive, publicly funded Education Wall across from the Legislative Office Building in Raleigh. The Gregg Museum of Art & Design at NCSU mounted an exhibition of his work, Permutations, Progressions + Possibilities = The Art of Vernon Pratt, last fall at the Betty Ray McCain Art Gallery, Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh. His work is also in the permanent collection of the NC Museum of Art.

383   Hall's Excelsior Cast Iron Bank
J. Stevens, patented 1869 but produced for a number of years after that date, cast iron with wooden monkey inside cupola. To operate one would pull the chain next to the front door; the top of the cupola will pop up exposing the monkey; place a coin on the platform in front of the monkey and the weight of the coin causes the top and monkey figure to fall back into the bank with a deposit having been made.

19th century ormolu mounted covered urn, the cobalt and gilt embellished field hand painted with a rural landscape scene on one side, the opposite side with a courting scene signed "Vernet", on footed base. Vincennes 1753 mark underside of lid.
Claude Joseph Vernet was an 18th century French painter known for his Mediterranean harbor scenes. Thus this artist signature is likely apocryphal.

All of the images are identified by either Wade or a later kinsman. Two 1862 civilian portraits of Wade are presented in molded thermoplastic cases, one featuring a beehive on both sides.
