Neither the Auctioneer nor MAAG will be held liable for a missed bid. In case of a disputed bid, the Auctioneer shall determine who is the successful bidder and at his or her discretion may re-offer and resell the article in dispute. The Auctioneer may reject small opening bids on high value items.

If payment is not received within 3 business days you will forfeit your lots. We accept cash (in-house bidding/pick-up only), cashier’s check, wire transfers (from only International bidders with an invoice that exceeds $1000 or for gold coins or jewelry purchases), money orders, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. The Buyer’s Premium is part of the purchase price, as is sales tax if applicable. We reserve the right to hold all goods paid for by check until payment has cleared. Please call the gallery at 919-563-2424 if you have any questions or concerns.
Online Payment Through Mebane Auction: Effective on the May 17, 2025 auction: We are now offering bidders a way to pay their invoice online, no matter how they bid. Please note: we will no longer accept online payments through Invaluable/AuctionZip If this is not your preferred method of payment, it is on the bidder to reach out to our accounting department to arrange an alternate form of payment. Payment is due within (5) business days post sale. The method of payment accepted is at the discretion of the auction house and is based on the item purchased, purchase amount, and bidder’s Invaluable buying history. You will be notified by the auction house if there is a particular payment method that is required. Forms of payment accepted are cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover and wire transfer. We request that if you are unable to process your payment within the (5) day window that you contact us so we can discuss and resolve any issues regarding the settlement. MAAG does reserve the right to auto-charge cards on file if payment has not been collected in the payment window.

Description & Details

We are excited to announce the two-day sale for the lifetime collection of Nancy Jo Fox. For the Fox family, collecting was a family affair. She often spoke of excursions antiquing with her parents, Katherine Eva Boyer Fox and Dr. Robert Eugene Fox, while growing up in Albermarle, NC. Because of this many of the items in her collection include a fox motif, for their namesake.

Fox was also an avid collector of Southern American Folk Art, including 19th century crazy quilts and puppets, pottery, textiles, exquisite designer jewelry, American and European furniture, antique guns, fine American sterling silver, early European brass, sculptural and two-dimensional art, early 20th century dolls and toys, late Victorian to early 20th century decorative arts, and much more!

The auction will be a live in-house gallery event with online bidding available through mebaneauction.com, Invaluable, and AuctionZip. Phone and absentee bidding is available to qualified bidders after filling out the form on mebaneauction.com by 5:00 pm Thursday, April 23rd. We look forward to seeing old and new friends at this prestigious event.

Fox grew up in North Carolina, spent time studying and teaching in New York City during her mid-life, then returned to North Carolina to assist her mother. She taught at the NY School of Interior Design from 1976-1991. During this time, she also curated her exhibit Liberties with Liberty: The Fascinating History of America’s Proudest Symbol. The exhibit was on display during the Centennial Celebration for the Statue of Liberty at the Museum of American Folk Art in 1986. The following two years, the exhibit traveled around the US with her poster series sent to all 50 governors and 166 US embassies.

She loved Bedlington terriers, and was preceded in death by her beloved Pixie, Ophelia, and Trampie. Among her vast collections of foxes, is a strawberry motif. Her mother, Kay, was the collector of strawberries which Fox continued looking for even long after her passing. She was also the great great granddaughter and great niece of prominent NC potters Nicholas Fox and Himer Fox (H. Fox).
