We are honored to host the live, in person on-site estate auction of Harriet Cope, late of Francestown, NH. Harriet began collecting antiques in the 1960's and proudly displayed her wares in this early American homestead at the end of Poor Farm Road. Harriet bought regularly at auction and shows into her late 90’s.

The house was built ca. 1772 on a King's Grant to the Sleeper family. Brothers Nathaniel and Benjamin from Portsmouth, NH travelled by foot and ox cart with a crew of men, over several seasons to fell timber, frame the building and construct the massive center chimney. The foundation has double sills to bear the weight, features soapstone and granite hearths, cooking spits and several brick ovens.

The Sleepers served in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, with Benjamin attaining the rank of Captain. His daughter Sara married a local man, William Terren, and they established the farms on both sides of Poor Farm Rd.
