ONLINE ONLY: Rare Victorian Nude & Risque CDVs

Victorian Debauchery: Risqué CDVs of the 19th Century

Eighty-five lots from a single-owner collection of Victorian erotic cartes de visite assembled over several decades. The catalog ranges from studio nude portraits and risqué partially dressed poses to hand-colored illustrated filler cards reproducing classical and mythological paintings, and on to frankly explicit photographs of couples and groups in staged interior settings. Notable photographer and publisher marks appear throughout, including L. Dubois & Cie of 68 Rue St. Martin, Paris; Enrico Branchi of Genova; Roberto Rive of Naples; Photographische Gesellschaft of Berlin; the London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company; and Nunes Photographic Gallery on Broadway. A run of performer and actress portraits by Mora of 707 Broadway, New York — among them trapeze artist Leona Dare and a pair of wrestlers in grappling poses — rounds out the offering.

Subjects include draped and undraped figure studies on chaises and daybeds, boudoir and bedroom narratives, satirical and comic genre scenes, reproductions after Baudry, Van Dyck, Veronese, Chaplin, Coomans, and Galimard, and an Abraham Lincoln caricature titled "The Latent Hercules." All cards depicting sex acts or photographic nudity are shown censored in the catalog; uncensored images are available on request. Viewer discretion is advised.

ONLINE TIMED AUCTION — LOTS BEGIN CLOSING SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2026 AT 6PM EST

This is an online timed auction: no livestream and no auctioneer. Bid at GRANITEUNIONAUCTION.COM — bid the next step, or set a maximum and we bid for you up to it. Bidding opens Monday, October 26, 2026 at 12AM EDT. Lots begin closing Saturday, November 28, 2026 at 6PM EST, one at a time in lot-number order, starting with lot 001. Each lot gets a one-minute clock when its turn comes. Every bid that raises the price adds up to 15 seconds, but the clock never goes above one minute. A lot nobody bids on still gets its full minute. When the clock runs out, the lot is sold to the high bidder, or passes if nobody bid or the reserve was not met. The next lot starts closing 1.5 seconds later, and the last lot closing ends the sale. The lot that is closing is shown in the NOW CLOSING bar at the bottom of the auction page. There are no outbid alerts for the lot that is closing, so keep an eye on the bar. With 85 lots, closing takes at least 88 minutes, so the last lot closes no earlier than 7:28 PM EST. Bids that extend the clock make it later.
