Description & Details

Sterling, Sterling, Sterling, & More!

Over one hundred and forty lots of fine sterling silver lead this online sale, drawn largely from the estate of the late Paul B. Clifford with additions from other New England dealers. The silver runs deep: a Tiffany & Co. mustard pot, a Bigelow Kennard coffee pot, a Gorham reticulated serving tray dated 1920, a S. Kirk & Son footed bowl, creamer and sugar sets from half a dozen makers, Paul Revere reproduction bowls, pierced serving plates, hammered Arts and Crafts salt and pepper sets, demitasse spoons and saucers by the dozen, sterling brooches, cigarette cases, a hallmarked pocket flask engraved 1892, and a Tiffany "Please Return To" key ring, among many others.

Beyond the silver, the catalog holds a striking run of antique embossed Halloween postcards — Frances Brundage, Ellen Clapsaddle, Raphael Tuck & Sons, and John Winsch designs, several postmarked between 1908 and 1913. Carved ivory lots include a Tuckerman family page turner with whale's tooth handle, a crocodile tusk carving, Japanese polychrome netsuke, Chinese chess pieces, and an ivory oak leaf dish. Rounding out the sale are undecorated sperm whale teeth, Inuit soapstone carvings, a rubina verde uranium glass bud vase, cranberry glass miniatures, a Victorian photo album, antique funerary ephemera, a malachite snuff bottle with coral stopper, and a composition Charlie McCarthy ventriloquist doll.
