As former antiques dealers, we are in the process of downsizing part of our 35-year collection of American antiques and folk art. As collectors, we have been particularly attracted to antique American primitives and folk art but also have appreciated and acquired many contemporary folk pieces including work by many of today's top wood carvers. The offerings for this sale will include a wide array of both antiques and contemporary folk art and primitives, political items, butter prints / cookie prints, primitive iron pieces, stoneware, ceramics, and other country-related smalls.

Ferris  and the Pa folk artist, Elmer Jumpers, "Tribute to Andy Anderson" in which a chain gang is being led by a guard,the only figure not having a big smile. Andy Anderson was a cowboy who went to Hollywood in the 1940's and appeared in a number of western movies but was always a wood carver at heart.A great carved diorama by William Melchior depicting a country band on the steps of "The General Store"Another carved wooden masterpiece by Temple University's William Melchior of " A Brief Respite" in the action on the Gettysburg BattlefieldAn array of caricature carvings including a cowboy by "Caricature Carvers of America" President, Pete Leclair.The Caricature Carvers is an organization recognizing the best in the carving business.Another array of carvings available including Ted Slawinsky's bust of LincolnAnother diverse array of wonderful wood carvings including the Penn State golfer.A set of two duck hunters from Cape Cod , a dancing Gene Kelly from Elmer Jumpers, two police officers,one by Dennis Thornton one of the best known carvers in AmericaAnother carving grouping including "Memories of Operations Past" by Richard Jensen of Statin Island in which the good doctor seems to be remembering his best.Caricature studies by Peter Ortell, former NYC fireman and extraordinarily well known carver and one of my favorites, Bill Clinton out running wearing his "Hillary is Always Right" shirt by Vermont artist Moses Paul Ward.Kawai upright piano Model UST 7An overall view of the selection  of butter printsA spectacular 34" wide Jane Gilday  painted and carved shelf in which  she illustrates the song "You Are My Sunshine" by depicting a loving couple throughout life-Gilday is a well respected artist from Bucks County,PaTwo butter prints added for this sale, an early small gessoed and painted dome box probably from  Schoharie County,NY, a simple carved panel from a  19th century box depicting a very folky  Pa style tree and bird scene and a 1976 carved bust from Lancaster CountyA quirky hanging coat rack for golfers and an early original oil painting by Betty Caithness  who became well known for her selling of  Folk Art patterns and booksAn original oil painting on canvas  by noted folk artist, Mary Shelley of Ithaca,NY-it depicts a New Hope,Pa eatery identified as "TSP New Hope,Pa" and dated  1983. Of course Shelley is well known for her carved and painted scenes,often of diners.  She however told us many years ago, that she occasionally did painted scenes simply to rest her hands from the carving process  and considered them of equal quality and value. Two further stoneware additions - a small pot marked Evan R Jones ,Pittston,Pa and a 2 gallon jug,unmarked but with an elaborate and dark stylized flower
