Condition reports and photographs form part of each lot's description - please review all images carefully and ask condition questions before bidding. Buyers are encouraged to consult qualified experts prior to bidding. Absence of a condition note does not imply a lot is free of wear consistent with age.

The Orient Gates
Description & Details
The Orient Gates presents a single-owner auction of Asian works of art - 63 lots of Chinese and Japanese porcelain, carved lacquer, cloisonne enamel and bronze - led by a magnificent garniture of three Japanese Imari baluster jars and covers with shishi finials (Lot 1). The Chinese porcelain runs deep in blue-and-white: Jingdezhen baluster jars and covers, ginger jars, prunus and dragon bottle vases, and Ming-style tianqiuping - alongside famille rose and famille verte enamels, Canton famille rose, and celadon and Longquan-style monochrome glazes, in hu-form, yenyen, meiping and double-gourd forms. Reign and seal marks appear in the Kangxi, Qianlong, Ming (Xuande), Tongzhi and Guangxu taste; every lot is catalogued honestly by period - late Qing dynasty, Republic period and 20th century - with apocryphal marks noted as such. The Japanese section offers Arita and Imari porcelain and a Satsuma-style piece, with Meiji- and Edo-period works. A strong group of works of art completes the sale: carved cinnabar and two-colour lacquer dishes, boxes and covers; cloisonne and Canton enamel vases; Peking overlay glass; archaistic bronze vessels; and a distinctive series of Chinese bronze and brass censers with Arabic inscriptions made for the Islamic market. Every lot is professionally photographed in detail and carries a written condition report; condition reports and additional images are available on request. This is a timed online auction with absentee and live online bidding; worldwide packing and shipping can be arranged.
