George Palmer (1925–2024) George Palmer was a graduate of the Albright Art School and received his BFA degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He studied at the Art Students League in New York City where he began painting on commission. After returning to Buffalo, he opened a studio and gallery where he exhibited the work of Western New York Artists. He taught classes at Genesee Community College, D’Youville College, Erie Community College and the Kenan Center as well as private classes at his studio. Because he worked with diverse subjects, figures, collage and abstractions, he was frequently called upon to serve as judge for numerous art exhibitions. A longtime exhibiting member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, he served as the president of that organization in 1960 and again in 1973. He painted many executive and family portraits during the past fifty years and his work is included in the collections of the Burchfield Penney Art Center, Westwood Pharmaceuticals, Daemen College, Canisius College, The University of Buffalo Medical School, Exchange Mutual Inc., and Welch Foods. Over the years, he also painted portraits of Lucille Ball, James Whitmore, Michael Bennett, Mark Russell and Bob Smith for the Shea’s Buffalo Theater Hall of Fame collection. He had numerous solo and group exhibition over the course of his long career and the last exhibition of his works took place last year at Art Dialogue Gallery in Buffalo featuring his landscapes, many of which were created in recent years.
