Description & Details
You do not want to miss this opportunity to take a glimpse into the life of the Artist. Please join us for a very special sale reflecting the passions of beloved local artist Sylvia Kleindinst, paper doll artist extraordinaire, painter and avid ephemera and doll collector.
Sylvia saw beauty all around her from the rusty bits and bobs collected over the years to snips of ribbon she included in her assemblages.
As a young child, Sylvia would spend hours in the dark at the local movie theatre, drawing the outfits of the stars she saw on the silver screen. This early exposure inspired a life-long passion for fashion and later in her life, would rekindle her love of paper dolls.
Sylvia studied art education, receiving multiple degrees. She began her teaching career at the campus school in Brockport,NY and Spencerport,NY and later Lancaster Central School in elementary art. She also worked with Gowanda Central School teacher Diane Dye to create an art exchange with students from Russia. Diane’s American Indian students were asked to produce artwork that portrayed the Seneca Nation way of life. In return they received more than 50 artworks from Russian students, ages 12 to 17, depicting every day life and Russian fairytales.
Sylvia was a fearless creator, always experimenting and evolving. Her art has gone through various periods from drawing paper doll sets to using vintage photos as inspiration for drawings and as primary elements in her mixed media collages. Sylvia also embraced technology utilizing Photoshop as yet another medium to explore and create.
Explore the life of this amazing individual and take home a piece of the world that inspired her each and every day.
