This promotional poster for the station was designed and illustrated by Alton Kelley and Rick Griffin, artists who created many, many of the era-defining psychedelic posters for the San Francisco-based music promoters, The Family Dog and Bill Graham. The poster was a collaboration between influential psychedelic artists David Singer, who created the collage portion, and Randy Tuten, responsible for the design and lettering. This is an authentic piece of memorabilia from the heyday of 1960’s rock and roll, having belonged to a devoted music fan and collector based in Philadelphia.
This poster, a first printing by renowned collage artist David Singer, was created for The Who's infamous opening date for the Quadrophenia tour in 1973. It was in the middle of this concert that Keith Moon passed out on his drum kit more than once after taking too many tranquilizers and he could not continue. Pete Townsend called out to the audience for a drummer and 19-year old Scott Halpin, from Iowa, heeded the call and joined the band onstage for three songs. This is an authentic piece of memorabilia from the heyday of the 1960’s counterculture, having belonged to a devoted music fan and collector based in Philadelphia. This poster, from 1973, Robert Fried created for the short-lived rock group Bodacious DF, a band founded by former Jefferson Airplane member Marty Balin which also included members of Quicksilver Messenger Service and Country Joe & The Fish. Fried was responsible for the album cover art for the group’s only release, 1973’s self-titled Bodacious DF. His poster for the band is an example of the artist’s brightly colored, graphically-abstract creations for which he was famous. Fried, a trained commercial artist, is well known for his iconic imagery from psychedelic posters and handbills of the 1960s and 1970s. From 1967 through 1970, Fried produced at least eighteen rock concert posters for promoters The Family Dog and Bill Graham Productions, among others.
