Terms & Conditions
ACME Auctions - Terms & Conditions
By registering to bid with ACME Auctions through LiveAuctioneers, all participants acknowledge and agree to the following Terms & Conditions. These terms govern the auction in full and supersede all prior announcements, advertisements, and published materials.
Bidding & Registration
Bidders must register with LiveAuctioneers to participate. ACME Auctions reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to approve or deny any registration and to refuse bidding privileges based on the past performance of a bidder with ACME Auctions, other auctioneers, or LiveAuctioneers.
Buyer Premium & Payment
A buyer premium, plus any applicable sales tax, is added to the hammer price of each lot. Invoices are issued through the LiveAuctioneers payment interface within 24 hours after the auction concludes. This sale uses the LiveAuctioneers Standard Autopay system: by registering, bidders authorize LiveAuctioneers to charge the card on file for the full invoice amount.
If Autopay is declined, the buyer must provide an alternative form of payment within 48 hours of the sale. Failure to remit payment within this period may, at the discretion of ACME Auctions, result in cancellation of the sale, assessment of damages, and/or the filing of a non-paying bidder dispute with LiveAuctioneers.
Shipping
ACME Auctions ships all items in this auction in-house, and we recommend using our service to save money. Items are sent via USPS Ground or Priority Mail unless other arrangements are made in advance.
Domestic shipping (Lower 48) is a flat $6.95 for any number of items you win, and shipping is FREE on U.S. orders over $50. We automatically combine your wins onto one invoice. International shipments are charged only what USPS quotes us, with no added handling or markup.
Customs forms for international shipments will reflect the full purchase price. Items will not be marked as a gift. International buyers are responsible for all customs duties, taxes, and fees.
Shipping quotes generated by LiveAuctioneers or their shipping partners are typically much higher than our in-house rates, so please wait for our invoice before paying.
Descriptions & Condition Reports
Catalog descriptions, estimates, and any statements (oral or written) are provided as opinions for guidance only and do not constitute warranties or guarantees of any kind. The absence of a condition note does not imply that an item is in perfect condition or without defects. Photographs form part of the description.
Prospective bidders are strongly encouraged to request additional photographs, information, or condition reports prior to bidding. Requests should be made at least two days before the scheduled close of a lot. All property is sold AS IS, WHERE IS, and all sales are final.
Estimates & Reserves
Pre-sale estimates are for reference only and do not predict or limit the final sale price. Some lots may be subject to a confidential reserve. The auctioneer is authorized to bid on behalf of the consignor up to the reserve.
Auctioneer Authority
The auctioneer has sole and absolute discretion in the conduct of the sale, including, but not limited to, the right to accept or reject any bid, to resolve any dispute between bidders, to advance bidding in such increments as deemed appropriate, to withdraw or reoffer any lot, and to group or subdivide lots.
Internet & Absentee Bidding
Online bidding through LiveAuctioneers is offered as a convenience. ACME Auctions is not responsible for errors, omissions, interruptions, or technical failures in the bidding process. In events where floor, absentee, telephone, and internet bids are all accepted, the decision of the auctioneer as to the successful bidder and final hammer price is final.
Transfer of Title & Risk of Loss
Title to each lot and risk of loss pass to the buyer at the fall of the hammer. Thereafter, buyers are responsible for the security, insurance, and transport of their purchases, whether collected in person or shipped by a third party.
Returns & Limited Guarantee
Except as expressly stated herein, all property is sold without warranty and all sales are final. Returns will only be considered if:
(a) the physical condition of the lot materially differs from the catalog description;
(b) the buyer relied on the photographs forming part of the lot description, or requested and received a written condition report, prior to bidding; and
(c) the buyer notifies ACME Auctions in writing within 24 hours of receipt.
Any determination of material difference is at the sole discretion of ACME Auctions. Approved returns must be received within 10 days, in the same condition and with the same components as when originally shipped or collected. Shipping, packing, and insurance costs are non-refundable.
Sales Tax
Applicable sales tax will be added to all invoices as required by law, unless the buyer provides a valid resale certificate or other tax-exempt documentation acceptable to ACME Auctions before invoicing.
Legal Disputes
Any dispute arising out of or relating to the auction, these Terms & Conditions, or any purchase made hereunder shall be resolved by binding arbitration in Suffolk County, New York, under the rules of a mutually agreed arbitration service. The prevailing party may recover reasonable attorney fees, collection costs, interest, and associated expenses.
Acceptance of Terms
Placing a bid constitutes full and unconditional acceptance of these Terms & Conditions. No alteration or amendment is binding unless made in writing and signed by an authorized representative of ACME Auctions.

Description & Details
Step Back in Time: One 19th-Century Maine Merchant's Ephemera, Plus a Large Postcard Selection
Something special for collectors of ephemera, postal history, advertising, and Americana.
Hundreds of lots, with more being added.
At its heart is an extensive group of original ephemera that all belonged to a single 19th-century Maine merchant and his family in Newburgh, Maine which starts with lot 675 and runs to lot 750. Spanning the late 1800s into the early 1900s, it reads like the contents of one businessman's desk: letters and business correspondence, billheads and invoices, advertising circulars and trade cards, stamped and postmarked covers, pamphlets, and documents. Addressed again and again to the family, it features Bangor wholesale druggists, Knights Templar sword makers, newspapers, pension agents, and soap and seed dealers. It is exceedingly rare to find ephemera like this still grouped together from a single source, a true treat for the postal history and Americana collector.
Also featured is a large and entirely separate selection of antique and vintage postcards (not connected to the Maine material): holiday and greeting cards, scenic American and foreign views, amusement parks, hotels, and street scenes, including many real photo and chromolithograph examples.
Every item is pictured exactly as you'll receive it, so please examine the photos closely.
SHIPPING POLICY
We handle all shipping in-house and recommend using our service to save money:
Lower 48: a flat $6.95 to ship any number of items you win.
FREE shipping on U.S. orders over $50.
We automatically combine your wins onto one invoice, emailed usually within 24 hours of the auction's close.
Careful packing: plastic sleeves, rigid top loaders for items over $25, durable stay-flat envelopes or boxes.
We can't control quotes from LiveAuctioneers or their partners (usually much higher), so please wait for our invoice.
