Description & Details
Our latest sale comes from a San Franciscan decorator who owned a collection focused on Asian and European art. Through the 1960s to 1980’s he collected from all over the world with items from Japan, China, England, Germany, France and many more countries covering the wide variety of items we have to offer.
From Japan there is a Temple Bell, a Japanese painted tea table, Imari and Tetsubin items, Ikebana bronzes, Japanese porcelain, a roof tile and a pair of very large and very beautiful Shi Shi. From Burma there is a wood gilt Burmese Buddha in the Mandalay style with China adding a Song vase converted to a lamp, a Chinese painted alter table and a Coramandel Chinese screen.
Other markets provided a ships bell, copper kitchenware by Copper Chef, Revere cookware, a dinner service in the style of Royal Crown Derby, glass candlesticks, a Queen Anne style drop leaf table, a baroque style Stickley table, a silver plated tea set and a Chippendale style lowboy. Add to that great list a collection of three monkeys from Daum in France, gilt French pedestal tables and a French style table - just a few of the fine items from his collection.
The art collection covers a wide area – a hand colored engraving attributed to Appleton, several oil paintings and prints including an unusual Ramon Santiago, a Schuler painting and a California style painting by A.F. Martin, together with a landscape signed by John McNab. There are several items of Chinese artwork and some Kulig paintings and engravings with a silk screen by Richard Duning, numbered 10/87.
At some point during your visit to this sale look out for the large assortment of oriental scatter rugs and prayer rugs including Bakari, Heriz and more. Don’t miss out on the furniture section where you’ll find a George Hardy tall case clock and a handmade regulator clock together with elegant sofas and armchairs, oak dining room chairs, Danish office furniture, a two drawer lateral file, midcentury modern bar stools and four hickory Queen Anne style chairs with acanthus decorated legs. Also we have Chinese furniture and an interesting cock fighting chair with pigskin leather upholstery. There is vinyl/wicker patio furniture where you can play a game of chess with your custom made chess set … and I mustn’t forget the clothes and everyday household items that can always be so very useful!
