19th Century Russian Silver Spice Tower: A 19th century Russian sterling silver (stamped 84, tested to be 92.5 sterling) six sided spice tower with intricate filigree panels, flag pendants and dangling bells. The gold washed silver pendant finial at the top of the tapered spire is stamped “I.Pearlman, 84” with the double headed eagle hallmark and the base is stamped “I.P. 84” with the eagle hallmark as well. The filigree spice compartment has a hinged door, it is hung with bells over a turned support and domed circular base. The total approximate weight inclusive of all non-metal materials is 4.83 ozt.

According to rabbinic legend, each Jewish person receives a special soul (neshama yetera) on the Sabbath. As this extra spiritual dimension departs from the body at the close of the Sabbath, one is overcome with a certain degree of sorrow. The spices are interpreted as a means of comfort at the moment of transition to the new week. As it was customary in ancient times to welcome the SabExcellent Bezalel School Sterling Silver Torah Crown: An extremely rare and important early 20th century Sefer Torah crown, made in the early days of the illustrious Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts in Jerusalem, made in between the foundation of the school in 1906 and its closing in 1929. The piece is entirely handcrafted of sterling silver (measuring 90-94% in various spots), with parcel gilding. Traditional Yemeni in form, the piece features an exquisite shape, completely formed by panels and rows of filigree work, bezel set with carnelian stones, the lowest edge set with 12 miniature, hand-carved bone medallions representing the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Bedecked with bells, a balustrade, stars of David, the piece also bears the inscription applied wording from Proverbs 3:18, “She is a Tree of Life for those who cling to it, Blessed are they who uphold her.”

The Bezalel School was established in 1919/20th Century Russian Spice Tower: A 19/20th century sterling silver filigree spice tower, presumably Russian, with flag pendants and a tapered spire. The six sided tower has a hinged door over dangling bells and a cage style base with further filigree, cast lions in gold wash at each of the four sides and paw feet. The tower is not marked but was tested to be 92.5 sterling silver.

The chain attached to its other end can be used to drape it over the Sefer Torah when put away.Exquisite Russian Silver Torah Set: An astonishing piece of Judaica, in the form of a nearly complete 19th-century Russian silver Sefer Torah set, comprised of a pair of rimonim, breastplate, and yad. Made in Moscow, by an unascribed maker, the set is comprised of silver, ranging in purity from 90-94%, though hallmarked as 84. Strikingly, and lovingly hand-wrought, the rimonim and breastplate are designed with parcel gilding, the rimonim with a tapered form, with layers of foliate motifs, rising to a bird finial atop each, hung all around with rows of gold plated silver bells. The breastplate, similarly designed, features the lions of Judah standing astride the עֲשֶׂרֶת הַדִבְּרוֹת, which is made of hinged doors opening to a recess. The work, complete with turned wooden handles and an embroidered velveteen cover, was the project of a skilled scribe, per the seller, a commission for an Austin, Texas synagogue.19th Century Sterling Silver Russian Torah Shield: An astonishing example of late 19th century Russian Judaica, a Torah shield in sterling silver with worn parcel gilding. The hand wrought plate displays scrolled foliate and floral detailing to the shaped edges, tapered columns as well as the lions of Judah flanking a dimensional crown with three bells and a bird finial. Hinged doors in the center in the form of the ten commandment tablets open to a recess over a slot frame which contains four interchangeable placards engraved for various holidays. 
The Torah ornamental shield is typically made of silver and engraved with Jewish symbols or scriptures. It is attached to a fine chain, and when the Sefer Torah is closed and covered, the breastplate hangs from the Atzei Chaim over the front of the mantel.

In the ritual function of the synagogue, the Sefer Torah is ornamented with a fitted vestment and either a silver Torah crown or finials and shield. Emily B. Waite is best known for her oil portraits, still life paintings, and etchings. She began her formal artistic training at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where she studied from 1908 through 1910 under Philip Leslie Hale and Francis Luis Mora. In 1910 she received the Paige Traveling Scholarship and traveled extensively for two years throughout France, Spain, the Netherlands, Czechoslovakia and Italy, studying and copying master paintings. In 1959 she returned to Europe, primarily to study fresco painting in Northern Italy. Waite’s work is represented in the collections of numerous distinguished institutions, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Smithsonian American Art "Path to the Sea" Original Painting by Joseph Urban (1872-1933): An original oil painting on board titled Path to the Sea by Joseph Urban (Vienna, 1872-1933).
