Lonnie held jobs as a ranch hand and an equipment operator, eventually working for the City of Oklahoma City, Parks and Rec Department as a field Supervisor, retiring from the city after 39 years in 1995.
Lonnie always had a love of horses and mules. He ran a horse- drawn carriage business that began in the 1970's and continued well into his retirement. He provided the carriages and horses in parades, weddings, and many events at both Lazy E Arena and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Center. He worked over 30 years for the State Fair of Oklahoma. Most notably he drove the stagecoach that took many country music and western celebrities into the Rodeo Concerts for many years; he also served as Superintendent of Horse Shows; and coordinated the horse and carriage groups in the daily parade at the Fair. He was a member and officer in the Oklahoma Draft Horse Association.
