What a privilege we have to be representing the work of artist Richard Liddell Lawlor. We have more than 50 of his oil paintings unpacked and out of storage ready to be acquired and enjoyed by the next generation of collectors.

Born in 1911, Dick Lawlor was raised in the coastal valley near Newberg, OR. At the age of 16, he went to New York City where he received a cultural education from his aunt who was an internationally known art critic and authority. Opera, museums, and theater were only one part of the rich and diverse milieu of the Big Apple in the late 1920s.  Street vendors and ethnic neighborhoods were a counterpoint to life on Park Ave.

When he returned to Oregon, Dick went to commercial art school and worked for the US Forest Service in Idaho during the 1930s.  

His career included work at Gerber Advertising Agency in Portland during the time when modern graphic design was developed. He also worked as an independent artist with exhibits in Oregon and Washington. Many of his subjects reflect his experiences of scenery and people at the early part of the 1900s, such as mountainous landscapes, logging with horses, and Native American fishing at Celilo Falls.
