“FROM STOURBRIDGE, WITH LOVE” As with most events in life, everything has a story; our quest for knowledge of the glassmaking industry and collecting some beautiful examples of art glass along the way is certainly no exception. Spanning a decade, it begins and ends with love in Stourbridge, West Midlands, . Having developed an online friendship with well known and respected art glass collector and dealer Linda Kelsey, we traveled to to meet Linda and her family. What developed over a period of years was an intense and deep friendship and love, centered on our quest for knowledge. With Linda as our mentor, we traveled the world visiting many fabulous sites and museums. We met and became friendly with authors, scholars, museum curators, glass blowers and dealers within the glass industry. Additionally, we were fortunate enough to have collected many fine examples of magnificent art glass.
One of the many things we learned from Linda is that we are but temporary custodians of the glass and our job is to protect and preserve the history and integrity of this fine art. Throughout our journey, pieces have been donated to museums and given as gifts to friend and family. The only way we had to repay Linda for her unconditional love and willingness to share her knowledge was to pass it along to whoever had interest. Linda, tongue in cheek, often said “No one can be as uneducated as you two- -I’ll never live long enough to teach you all you need to know”! Little did she know at the time, her assessment would prove accurate. Sadly, on March 16, 2005 Linda passed on. Her memory and spirit remain with us forever.
With this in mind, we are passing the torch and making our collection available to new custodians. Should you acquire any of our treasures for your collection, don’t be surprised if a warm and loving feeling accompanies the piece- - Linda’s love and giving from her heart has touched every book, piece of ephemera and piece of art glass in our collection. We now pass that on to you along with our love, gratitude and appreciation to Linda and all those who gave so freely of themselves to assist us in our education.
Warmest regards,
Andy & Rob
