Vicksburg, Mississippi natives Dr. and Mrs. Lavecchia lived in Germany at the end of WWII where they began collecting many German delights that you will find throughout the house including a large collection of Meissen, Steinbach Nutcrackers, and Hummels. The couple settled in Chattanooga in 1947. Dr. Lavecchia became Chattanooga’s most loved pediatrician for decades. As a pillar of the medical profession in Chattanooga, Dr. Lavecchia helped develop Chattanooga’s Children’s Hospital, where he served as chief of staff for a number of years. He served on the Memorial Hospital Development Board and was awarded the Doctor’s Doctor Award of Pediatrics as well as the Memorial Hospital Humanitarian Award.
Josephine “Pap” Lavecchia served as a board member of Memorial Hospital, the Medical Auxiliary, the Ladies of Charity, Riverview Garden Club, Chattanooga Junior League, and as she liked to say “the oldest member of the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club”. She had a gifted eye for quality art, furniture, decor, and china as you will see throughout the beautiful home. An extremely generous lady, Mrs. Lavecchia has three closets dedicated to nothing but gifts for every occasion. Be it man, woman, or child, Mrs. Lavecchia had something fabulous wrapped and ready to share!
