Schow's Estate Sales

Description & Details

This sale is the combination of three estates. The first, an architect with early family ties to Lookout Mountain and Valley Head, Alabama, focuses on fine decorative arts. He collected Western artwork, architectural elements, and inherited family pieces that include both early Southern and late 19th and early 20th Century French antiques. His strong local ties made Chattanooga history important to him, and he loved the early ephemera, images, prints, and photographs that shaped our local history. The second estate is from the brow of Signal Mountain. The Plum Nelly Art Show was one of her favorite haunts, so of course, this estate is full of fun local art work. She enjoyed the odd and whimsical. Her home demonstrated the creativity of this region. The third is part of one of the most important collections in this city. This collector is in his 80’s and is starting to downsize. His focus is on fine Arts and Crafts and southern furniture.

When blended together, the collage of these estates is impressive. The different styles work well together. It is Bohemian at its best. Please come join us on Friday and Saturday.

Augustin Gattinger was born February 3, 1825 in Munich, Germany and died July 18, 1903 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a botanist and medical doctor who, in 1901, published the first extensive catalog of the botany of his adopted state entitled Flora of Tennessee and Philosophy of Botany.
