All lot items will be available for preview on Thursday March 1st from 1:00pm to 6:00pm, or Friday March 2nd from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Complimentary coffee, wine, beer and hors'd'oeuvres will be served during the auction. Those attending the live auction from the metro-nashville area will receive free packaging and delivery of large items. Those attending the live auction from outside the metro-nashville area have the option of either taking the items won, or having Worthington pack and ship the items at an additional fee.

This chest (also called coffer or kist) has a rectangular structure constructed with four thick solid wood walls and a liftable lid, for storage. The interior space is open except for the removable shelf. This is a fantastic example of an early 19th century coffer that stored a home's finest possessions, usually fine clothing/cloth, weapons, and other valuable items.

Also known as the Highland Officer’s Sword, this 1831 pattern broadsword is a two-edged cut and thrust sword with a full nickel-plated steel basket guard. With its origins in the traditional weaponry of Highland clansmen, the two highly distinctive features of this hilt are its lining and fringe. The lining is made of white buckskin covered on the outside with red superfine and its edges bound with blue silk ribbon. The fringe, of red silk bound with red ribbon, ties around the pommel and drapes across the front of the basket.

Though most indentures of this time period were legal contracts binding indentured servants, this particular piece seems to be the will of a man named Charles Cotton. A blue cypher seal from the reign of King George III sits in the upper left corner. The piece is written on vellum from the “Stationary Office, Palace Yard.” Signatures and wax seals depicting the busts of each signee, including Cotton, are lined up across the base of the page. All seals are still intact on the Indenture. A wavy line is cut across the top of the page; this is because these documents were written in duplicate on the same sheet, separated by cutting along a jagged (toothed, hence the term “in_dent_ure”) line, then lined back up together to ensure authenticity. The indenture is presented behind archival glass double glazed in a thin black wooden frame. A wire is attached to the verso of the piece for hanging. Hutchins, Jr. dated July 12, 1861, just before Hutchins entered the 16th Georgia Regiment, and just three months after the war began with the bombardment of Fort Sumter, South Carolina. Letter is written from the City of Cumming, Georgia. The author writes “May you conquer our enemies and return with Victory…. May the God of Battle protect you and keep you safe.” Hutchins was a commander of the Confederate Georgia Sharpshooters and mustered out as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was taken POW at Sailor’s Creek. With original cover. Very good condition. Cumming is the county seat of Forsyth County Georgia, and is located forty miles north of Atlanta. The town was founded in 1833, a year after the creation of Forsyth County. The land for the town, two forty-acre lots that were part of an 1832 Cherokee land lottery, was purchased by local officials in 1833 and 1834. They then divided the town land into smaller lots and sold them off over the next several years, reseMusic box first patented in the US on March 1st, 1881 which appears to play 8 separate songs. Does not have identifying sheets stating original maker or list of songs, but all mechanics of the box appear to function properly, if a little stiffly. In very good condition, with one surface scratch on the lid, measuring approximately one and a half inches, and another on the edge of the lid as well as minor signs of wear on the corners.
