Late 1700’s New England secretary in pristine original condition! This is, by far, the most significant item in the sale, one of the most significant items we’ve ever seen. Everything about this piece screams early American craftsmanship, from the hand carved detailing, to the hand cut solid brass hardware. The sides are solid Walnut, drawer fronts are burled Walnut veneer over a coniferous face piece. Drawer bottoms are Oak, all other non-exposed solid wood pieces are coniferous. 40x20x79. $8,000. (*) The ONLY drawback to this piece is that at some point in its life, someone applied a non-breathable finish coat, which has caused a slight degradation of the burled Walnut veneer.
