Sale PictureSale PictureEarly Chippendale walnut looking glass with fine carved and incised gilt details, side drapes of fruit and flowers, carved scrolled arched cresting, the center surmounted by a bold carved phoenix bird. The scrolled inner border and the incised and gilded flower and vines in the base are a rococo expression of the Chippendale style. The figured walnut has a golden mellow patina, much of the original gilt is evident under a coat of later gold paint.

Origin: American by descent; English in origin; Circa: 1740-1760.
