The Garvin-Summers house ca 1850 is one of few remaining antebellum homes remaining in Fayette county. Built as a three room dogtrot it has been expanded several times over the last 160 years. Built by Dr. Garvin a physician in Fayette county, the house then transferred ownership to Julias Summers. As a Confederate soldier, Summers suffered a gunshot wound in the Civil War and was found by Union soldiers. He was able to convey to them he was a Mason. Rather than take him to a Union prison he was taken to a local farmhouse to recover, as the Masonic brotherhood ran deeper than the rift that caused the war. Summers was the oldest person to be elected to the Tennessee State Senate at the age of 81.

The current resident has collected paintings, prints, objects d'art, fine antique furniture and collectibles from around the world over decades of travel to Europe and Asia, as well as American farmhouse style furniture.
