My sale this week is the Estate of Phil & Benita Perabo. As I'm reading & writing the "story" of these two who met right after WWII, I can picture a life of Love, Happiness, Faith & Family.
Phil's father was an immigrant from Germany, his mother was a first generation American who raised their family in Tupelo, Mississippi. He joined the Navy in 1941 and trained as a fighter pilot at the age of 20. He was a member of the 2nd flight training class at NAS Corpus Christi. He joined the fleet (VC-9) aboard the USS Boque in 1942, where he was a part of the strike group responsible for sinking the first German sub in the Atlantic. He then joined a fighter squadron in the Pacific serving aboard the USS Bennington until he was shot down and taken prisoner at Ofuna, a Japanese POW Officer Interrogation Camp where he spent the remainder of the war. He was decorated 9 times. Benita did her part for the war by working at North American Aviation, who produced the P-51 Mustang.
After retirement from the Navy, Phil married the love of his life and he and Benita were married for 65 years. Benita was the "life of the party", she was raised in Dallas, Texas and was always well dressed and classy. She helped Phil in his real estate business, raised 4 children, loved working at The Good Shepherd Corner and Outreach Ministries at her church.
