Description & Details

We have been asked to liquidate the items in Jo Stephenson's estate found throughout her lovely townhouse.  One of the most organized and well-maintained estates we have taken care of in a long time, her organization and quality of items made putting this sale together a real treat.  Mrs. Stephenson was clearly a lover of nice things and took excessively good care of them and of her home as well.

Dad's comment about this sale was, "She had quality things, from the large furniture on down to the every day items she used, like these little manicure scissors."  Many of the pieces in her estate have an Asian flair, and as many good designers will encourage, so much of what she had is interchangable from one room to another because the styles and colors are similar and pleasing together.  I did not take a picture of the clothing, shoes, and jewelry, but I hope you will trust me when I say that they are all very nice as well.

This mahogany Drexel chest of drawers features a Mid-Century Modern style and is a companion piece to a mirrorless dresser. It could work as a bedroom piece or as a piece in any room of the house where you need style and storage.I wish I could've gotten a better photograph of the companion to the chest of drawers, but the room was small. Nonetheless, the Mid-Century Modern mahogany dresser features an asymmetrical styling with four large drawers to the left and four smaller ones to the right. Dad and I discussed it, and this Drexel piece could be a good sideboard-style piece, if you don't need anything for the bedroom! This handsome Tryon Manor by Drexel dining room set includes 8 side chairs (6 are pictured here) and could comfortably seat even more. Displayed here with both of the 18-inch leaves installed, the beautiful finish on the table top features book-matched crotch-grained wood in a medium-dark stain. The chairs have lovely tone-on-tone ivory upholstery on the cushions and cane-inset backsThis stylish Danish Modern-style drop-leaf table has no discernable brand but is a nice and well-crafted piece. Displayed here with the other two side chairs to the dining room set, the 12-inch leaf is not pictured, but it is available, making this a great table for display, as is shown here, or as a dining room table, with drop leaves extended, as well. The clean lines would look great in a home with modern decor or in an eclectically-decorated home with furniture from many periods and styles. We checked, and this Thomas Playmate electric "Speak Easy" organ works and sounds great. This maple credenza table has glass insets in the top and a wooden lower shelf and has a clean-line style that would go with many different decors. These barrel chairs feature dark mahogany wood and ivory and light blue upholstery. They look very nice here, displayed with a Drexel drum table in similar wood and Asian-inspired detail at the leg.The close-up of the Drexel drum table shows the Asian detail at the legs and the well-kept finish of the wood. This table is a companion piece to a set of other tables throughout the home and features an inlaid concentric circular pattern around the edge of the top. There exists a visual link between Asian style furniture and modern Cubist-style furniture, as proven here with this black metal and glass credenza table. It goes so well with the other Asian-inspired furnishings in this home. However, according to decorators like Nate Berkus, though, an ultra-modern piece such as this can go well with any style of eclectic design. The RCA television sits atop a Colonial-style faux-cherry finished cabinet that has storage at the bottom and brass pulls. This Drexel bedroom set seems to be teak and includes the headboard with built-in storage, two nightstands, a 9-drawer mirrorless dresser with brass accents, and an octagonal end table with a glass inset in the top. The bed here is a double, but it appears that the headboard can be configured to accomodate up to a king-sized bed. The brass accents and shape of the furniture feature an Asian-inspired design. The nightstand doesn't lean. It's the fault of the photographer. However, this is a closer photo of the style and detail of the bedroom suit.As per the style of a lot of the furniture in this home, this rolling television stand with storage compartment has an Asian feel, due to the wicker inset against the darker-stained wood. I have to admit that I forgot to check on what the brand of the television is...The octagonal teak end table matches the wood and style of the rest of the bedroom suit or could be a stand-alone piece. It has an octagonal glass inset in the table top.The light blue-upholstered low-back chair has clean lines, casters for easy movement, and is in remarkable shape. The photo doesn't do the beautiful burl in this dark-stained drum table justice. The brass handle opens the table's door to a remarkable amount of storage in this end table. The teak 9-drawer mirrorless dresser matches the rest of the Asian-inspired bedroom suit described earlier and is, as the rest of the set, a part of a Drexel suit, so the quality of the pieces are high in this solid-wood set.I have seen Byobu screens like this displayed with care and reverence in many museums. As is the tradition in many Asian screens, the motif is serene florals on a natural silk background color in this four-panel screen, displayed here as wall art. The frame is dark-stained wood and can function as either a continuous frame, as pictured here, or can allow the screen to be free-standing on a surface. I cannot vouch for the age of this screen, but I can say that it is of very high quality and likely to be an antique. It is signed. Here is a Singer 9410 sewing machine in its cabinet. I probably should have waited until Dad and the boys got the sewing machine up to the top of this cabinet, but I wanted you to be able to see that it is a good medium-shade finish, has opportunity for a lot of storage for spools of thread, bobbins, and other sewing equipment, and when configured properly has table space for the fabric while sewing. It also is on casters, so it can be easily moved into the perfect space in your home.I am a sucker for Blue Willow, and if I didn't think David would kill me for bringing more of it into the house, I would grab this interestingly-shaped pitcher and cup set. The cups, also in Blue Willow pattern are a bit larger than juice glasses. When I first photographed this display, I didn't realize that the large brass platter with cut work is actually a table top that you will see pictured with its Moroccan-style base in later photographs. The platter is flanked by two large brass candle sticks that are taller than 18 inches and have a graduated round design. You can also purchase the two ivory-colored honeycomb candles to go on top, as pictured here. The two balck vinyl-upholstered chairs are roughly barrel-shaped with nail-head trim and casters to be able to move them around easily. More than one of us sat in them while setting up the sale and noted that they are of sturdy construction but have clean lines and are remarkable comfortable to sit in. In addition, the two delicate tables between them are cherry-colored finish with brass detail and do double duty. The table tops are actually detachable trays. The coffee table matches a number of other mahogany Asian-inspired Drexel pieces throughout the house. The end table also matches the other mahogany Asian-inspired Drexel pieces. These two arm chairs appear to be teak and have large cane insets in the backs as well as casters for easy movement of the chairs. The upholstery on the seats is a crem-colored Victorian-style floral. The credenza/sofa table in the bay window is solid wood oak and would look great with both modern style decor, antiques, or eclectic styles of furnishings. The 13-inch square table top of this part of the mahogany Asian-inspired Drexel set also has a pull-out shelf. If you need a long and deep sofa in a color that is easy to incorporate into almost any home, then this is the sofa for you! The upholstery is a plush dark navy, and the clean lines work well with many different styles of furniture and accent pieces.I will admit that my photographic prowess leaves a bit to be desired here, but this was supposed to show some of the rather extensive collection of Chinese clay stock characters that are available at this sale. The shiny glaze reveals rich colors, interesting expression, and high detail in these character figurines of varying sizes. The torchier is not likely to be an actual antique, but it is a good reproduction. This low coffee table appears to be dark-stained teak but sports beautiful burl accents and cane panels in the hexagonal pillars. As is the case with many of the furnishings and decor in the home, the table has an Asian feel. A charming bamboo and wicker eterger sits atop the handsome table.Dad and I discussed the description of this versatile piece for a while. It has locking doors and multiple drawers, many of which also lock, for additional storage. We came to the conclusion that it is likely to be walnut and could serve many purposes, from a credenza, to a mirrorless dresser, to a sideboard. The best thing is that if you purchase it, you can decide its best use. This photograph displays one of two matching barrel chairs with light blue upholstery on the cushion and cane back inset. We feel the wood is likely to be dark-stained walnut. The medium-stained wicker trunk is about 12x28 inches and has brass accents. It is the right size to be able to sit on the floor alone or could fit atop another surface, if you prefer. This double bed has a French Provincial style headboard in what appears to be walnut with cane insets in the three panels. This photograph displays one of two 21 inch tall nightstand tables in dark cherry-look wood with Queen Anne style table top and legs with ball-and-claw feet. The brass and glass baker's rack has a feel of faux bamboo and could be used in a kitchen or, as it is here, as a display shelf in any part of the house.Just a small part of the hard-back books available at this sale...If you enjoy entertaining, then this is the estate sale for you! We have an extensive collection of glasses and crystal from tall to old fashioned sized, wine glasses, brandy snifters, champagne flutes, shot glasses, cocktail pitchers, and just about any item you may need to fully appoint a bar or serving area in your home. This photo shows only a fraction of the glassware available at the sale. The painting and magazine article come from a vintage Texas Monthly, but people who are interested in Texas trivia and historical items will want to check out this original and genuine document under glass that shows Governor Miriam A. "Ma" Ferguson's signature. This white Maytag washer and dryer set looks almost brand new. As is the case with most everything in this sale, they have been used but well-maintained and, as usual with Dad's estate sales, they will be competitively priced. The white Maytag freezer also looks new but has been used and well-maintained. I want it, but David says we don't have room...In the interest of full disclosure, I must say that one of these black vinyl and metal rolling office chairs is not for sale. However, the other matching chair with four rollers and both black metal desks are definitely available.Mrs. Stephenson was an incredibly organized lady, and part of that was managing a good filing system. Here, you see three different filing cabinets that she used. One has locking doors, and the other two are two-drawer cabinets. This dark-stained Mid-Century Modern-style book case currently houses a set of encyclopedias but could definitely hold whatever books you cherish and could also display things on the top, as well. This pair of white painted chests of drawers could be painted a different color if you like, or they could be sanded here and there to give them a shabby-chic look. Keep the pulls, or switch them out for ones you like better, but don't let them get away. The rustic bird house has two perches, a small metal bowl for a bird bath or for birds and other animals to get a quick drink of water, and is free-standing with its heavy circular metal base, making it a convenient addition to your yard or patio. This large silver plated punch bowl, platter, and ladel is pictured here without the 24 punch cups that are a part of the beautiful set. Mrs. Stephenson had an extensive collection of beautiful silver plate and sterling silver items as well as a good bit of effective silver and metal-cleaning items to make owning all of it much more convenient. The boxed lead crystal salt and pepper shaker set with sterling tops is a companion to an unpictured boxed sugar shaker that is slightly larger and in the same design. The provenance of her items was important to Mrs. Stephenson, and so for Corsicana history buffs, you will appreciate the fact that the gift card from The Woolens family is still with the sets. This attractive set of pottery is maked Bulgaria and has a blue field with an interesting hand-made geometric pattern adorning it.This set of Topaz pottery has a similar modern but hand-made design feel as the Bulgarian set, though it is not a match to it.Ok, so again, I have to admit that the photo I have of these pieces of pottery do them very little justice. However, the off-white large platters, bowl, and the plates sport a very pretty low frieze of strawberry and vine design and are marked ADE ITALY.One of the built-in cabinets in the dining room holds a nice set of Poppy Trail pottery by Metlox. So if you're a wine-drinker, you may not have realized it, but Brookstone offers "power cork screws" like this one. When you have opened your wine with your new power cork screw, you can use this handsome silver-plated wine caddy and matching embellished silver-plated cork in grape vine motif to keep the wine handy and pretty, too!More of the glassware available, including some of the pitchers and some of the Christmas items as well...Glass items also include cake stand and dome, more than one trifle dish, canister sets, and other items as well.
