A note from the Seller:
"LaRita and Lamar McGown were both from East Texas, Huntsville, and Fairfield. They were devoted Christians, who attended Sagemont Church every Sunday and were part of the Sunday school group, so there are a lot of items in the home that are faith based. They were married 65 years and have lived at this estate since 1976. LaRita was an employee for the Friendswood school district for many years as the principal secretary. Lamar was a Korean war Veteran, who worked at Houston Lighting & Power as an Engineering supervisor, then retired after 35 years of service.
They both loved to travel and went on many cruises all over the world. Some of LaRita’s costume jewelry were from their cruise travels. Their oldest son participated in MISSIONARY traveling and lived in some of the most remote areas of Thailand and Cambodia, where he brought back rare and one of a kind artwork. The beaded sequined elephant art in the dining room is from a very remote area in Northeast Thailand and is a VERY RARE find, which is not from where any tourist can easily travel to acquire. The painting in the guestroom is a one-of-a-kind painting from another non-tourist/remote area of Cambodia, where it was painted by a local artist and bought the same day by their son, who brought it back to the US, so there is not another one like it. LaRita loved antiques, so there is some antique furniture in the home, such as the dining & buffet table, as well as vintage furniture from the 60s/70s (roll top secretary, clocks, and handmade wooden desk, to name a few) that were under 1 owner and not bought anywhere else.
The McGown’s loved hosting friends and family. LaRita’s hobbies were playing bridge with her Sunday school friends and having lunch on her antique glass sandwich plates, she loved shopping and of course her favorite hobby was cooking and baking. The China set was handed down from her late Aunt Merlene and it is unknown how long she had the set in her family. There are pieces of real silver trays that are rare as well. The gold mirror in the dining room is a vintage/antique mirror that belonged in the family for many years!
Lamar's hobbies were hunting, fishing, and sports. There are some items in the garage that are unique finds from Lamar’s time spent tinkering. Both were avid Astros fans (never missed a game). Lamar & Larita, aka Mimi & Paw Paw, were grandparents of 6 beautiful granddaughters who they loved unconditionally. Coming from the words of the 3 sons, selling the house will be very sad, however whomever has the privilege of living here or acquiring any of the precious items will be a blessing for many years to come."
