Our Client graduated from college in Abilene in 1954 with a BA in Geology and worked for Rock Hill Drilling Company in New Mexico for several years. He got a job teaching math in the Indian High School in Jemez Springs, New Mexico, which he loved. He attended the University of New Mexico to get a degree in education. Burt moved to Stamford, TX, to teach where he met and married Nancy Ashcroft on March 21, 1964, and became the father of David James. When David was little, he used to say "That's where Daddy married Mommy and me." The family then moved to Houston so he could attend the University of Houston and fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming an optometrist. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1970 with a Doctor of Optometry. He practiced optometry for 35 years, and at one time owned 5 Texas State Optical offices. He also served his profession as a member of the Texas Association of Optometry. His love for optometry is evident by the many Vintage Optical collections showcased in the home.
The couple took flying lessons and they both became pilots. They bought a ranch near Mexia which they and their family enjoyed during weekends and vacations, often riding motorcycles. He loved messing with his tractor and counting his cows. After retiring, the couple went on several family cruises in the Caribbean with his siblings. The Dr. had a lifelong love for reading and built up an extensive library of novels which are featured for sale in this estate.
