The Kern family included Theodore Kern and William Kern who were glass blowers and designers of glass and both served as superintendents for The Sandwich Glass Company. Our client's great grandfather William Kern started working at 8 years old in the glass business. He was a glass blower and served as superintendent at The Sandwhich Glass Company before also serving as superintendent of the Pairpoint factotry. Several piece of glass in our sale where hand blown by Mr. Kern. He was instrumental in developing the emerald color in their glass. The large green Pairpoint vaseline platter with the center bowl and the vase is the Colias pattern which was designed by Mr. Kern. When he retired from Pairpoint, the company gave him over 100 of his pieces. The family donated almost all of those pieces to the Sandwich Glass Company museum. The house has some very nice high quality furniture, glass, pottery, collectibles and decor and silver that came with them to Texas from Massachusetts.
