Items of Value, Inc
Description & Details
There must be a place in heaven for collectors that gives them unlimited space to display their collections, something like a huge piazza with MANY open glass shelves. Unfortunately, the collector who lived in this condo unit was obliged to cram a lot of items into a small space. We have shot many photos of items that we then had to put back into cupboards or cabinets. It will be like a hide-and-seek game for you. The owner loved a variety of items that included dinnerware, colored glass, vintage silverplate, and flatware. Maybe in her next life she is setting tables for huge deluxe banquets.
She had several china patterns, but the greatest quantity are the Haviland "Rosalinde" with over 30 place settings, and a light red Christmas pattern called "Yuletide" by Staffordshire Engraving. In china patterns, some of you will like the "Cherry Chintz" or Minton's "Haddon Hall".
The variety of colored glass bowls, plates, and goblets she collected is apparent as you walk through the condo unit. On the modern side, you will find several versions of colored "sectioned" glass. For vintage ware, you will find blue, ruby red, light green, and clear cut glass goblets and a few bowls. The most expensive will be the silver overlay ruby goblets, of which you will find 3 sizes, plus one pitcher. "Over the top" are five reproduction Venetian Renaissance glass goblets, which you will see on a glass shelf in the HUGE white china cabinet.
In 46 years of conducting sales, I have never seen such FINE vintage silverplate nor as large ones as you will see at this sale. The baskets are in fine condition and exhibit fine workmanship. You will find smaller containers as well. Take a selfie of yourself with the enormous oval domed cover over the roast serving tray on feet. It is inscribed. Yes, there is a tea service. Sorry, that we did not have time to polish all of the pieces. You will discover 7 flatware sets, some we have put out but most still in flatware cases.
In what we call the library, you will come face-to-face with a wall of books. Many are cookbooks. We put the ten years of Gourmet magazines on shelves in the kitchen. The library includes a small French-style oval table and 4 chairs. There you will also find several metal racks with shelves of rectangular baskets. For lack of space, we have put more items in that second bathroom. We discovered about 14 small rugs, each one apparently cleaned then rolled up in paper. We have unwrapped all of them but had to reroll some of them for lack of space to display all of them.
For furniture, what is in the dining room reminds me of a summer beach house on Cape Cod since all of it is white. There are 8 clean dining chairs. We moved the oak reproduction Mission Oak-style flatware/jewelry cabinet into the dining room, moved a second flatware cabinet in the Queen Anne style to a corner of the living room, and a third smaller one in black into the library. You will be bedazzled by the multicolor handpainted stepback cupboard in the living roomk, also the multicolor handpainted side chair to its right. Nearby you will discover an antique kitchen "work station" for sale. Who of you will like the French Provincial-style china cabinet that you saw as soon as you came in that has been painted orange with the inside covered in extravagant wallpaper?
The large oval brass tray goes well with the rug in the center of the living room, which is flanked by two chairs. We have had to stack other trays plus a lot of Christmas items on chrome racks we put in the kitchen. Enjoy selecting from among the Spode Christmas bowls and plates, vintage ornaments, new icicle light strands, red placemats and table covers. All of the chrome racks throughout the condo unit are for sale, but we need them to use until the end of the sale Sunday afternoon.
We spent hours opening the Amazon shipping boxes to discover items that were purchased but never used. We have put many on more chrome racks in the bedroom area. Too bad you could not have the experience yourself of opening boxes to see what is inside. At least now you will find MANY brand new items that have never been used. We have also spent time arranging the clothes for sale. You will find some nice choices among them. Many are brand new, with the tags still on them.
Please bring strong satchels with you for your purchases. This time we do have a lot of empty boxes, but they are small. Look forward to this, another fine Items of Value sale. It is one of two or three consecutive weekend sales we are doing in June, all at Montebello.
