Description & Details
By far, the most spectacular impression you will have of this sale is the vast amount and diversity of framed art we have for you. It includes fine paintings, watercolors, and etchings from Europe and the United States. Upon entering, you will be greeted by a memorable fall scene of birch trees with autumn red foliage. Over the oak cabinet in the dining room, you will see a FINE still life flanked by two FINE British watercolors. Behind one of the two brown leather sofas in the living room, you will see a very large polychrome abstract painting. Another fine painting is of Sacre Coeur in Paris.
Complementing the artworks is a variety of bookcases and cabinets, the shelves displaying items from all over the world. The rosewood-veneered bookcases/cabinets are in a bedroom along with a solid cherry cannonball-style bed and dresser. In the same room is an antique marble-topped washstand upon which we have placed an antique ceramic pitcher and basin. You will discover an assortment of topics covered by the over 500 books there.
From Europe are a wood carved bust of an Alpine gentleman in Alpine hat smoking his pipe, a handpainted blue-on-white Delft jar with brass lid, French Limoges, fact a good assortment of European porcelain. At the far end of the living room we have assembled an antique highchair, antique child's side chair, and a diminutive wicker armchair. At the other end, we have assembled Asian items.
Look for the small antique European brass framed carriage clock. We have just had it cleaned for you. We have put the foreign coins we found together in one bowl. You will discover equal variety in the collection of hats plus for the men, and a large selection of size L and EL polo shirts, including one brand new from the US Embassy in Baghdad, and dress shirts.
The gentleman's study offers you a period signed Mission Oak desk and chair. On the walls you will find framed items that interest men in particular: Civil War prints, pictures of trains and ships. We have hung the pair of Himalayan brass long horns there. You will discover in the bedroom a formerly VERY EXPENSIVE Native American rug, on top of which we have put a ceramic pot made by a known Native American artist. You will find his name on-line. We have assembled in that room a group of musical instruments in another room: guitars, trumpet, bugle, flutes. The sterling silver flute we show you separately in one of our showcases. That room has two sets of FINE oak cabinets for sale. The middle unit of each set has a cubby. You are welcome to sit on the "also formerly expensive" large upholstered bench in the middle of that room.
We have brought in two display cases to present the variety of small items from around the world. On the enclosed balcony, we have added a round white metal table surrounded by four genuine Hitchcock side chairs, also an electric copy of a Franklin stove that you would enjoy not only looking at on cold winter days, but which is a heater as well. You might enjoy looking at the night sky through the telescope there. There is a new smaller one in a box beside it.
Please bring empty boxes or strong canvas satchels with you. Look forward to another fine sale by "Items of Value". We have requests for two more sales in October, both in Alexandria. So, we will be able to provide you fine weekend entertainment.
