Description & Details
Happy New Year. We have brought in three display cabinets plus four jewelry cases to display a lot of silver objects, jewelry, and flatware that we have been polishing. The highlight of the silver objects is a pair of antique (c. 1900) Greek silver repousse beakers/glasses with gilt backgrounds. We also have for you a Meissen blue onion pattern reticulated compote and 18 pieces of Belleek. Since we are able to hang pictures on the walls, we have also brought in a variety of wall art. This includes tapestries, many FINE medium size and small framed paintings, some by listed artists.
Artwork includes a valuable bronze standing male figure titled "Improvvisatore" by Francisque Joseph Duret (1804-1865), also vintage Italian colored glass vases, plus 2 highly collectible ceramic pieces. They are a 1930s Art Deco-style head vase by Catalina Pottery and a limited edition Duke of Ellington Toby Mug made by Holkham for the 1953 coronation. A vintage pair of pewter pigeon bookends support the more expensive books on top of the vitrine you will encounter as soon as you enter. Over the vitrine hangs an original watercolor of a horse-drawn sledge of people riding in the snow. This is only one of several original pictures that you may enjoy. On the glass shelf inside the vitrine we display three canes/walking sticks: gilt-handled, ivory tipped, and Nigerian "people tree". A white marble block from the steps of the US Capitol is also there.
In the living room you will find a matched set of leather furniture: 3-seater sofa, loveseat, overstuffed armchair. We will sell these individually. A triple-light floor lamp with Tiffany-style colored glass domed shade lends light to items in one showcase. In the dining room you will discover a plateglass dining table surrounded by four skirted chairs and backed by a large china cabinet. We have set the table with FINE Royal Doulton "Biltmore" pattern and crystal. The plates look stunning against the dark blue woven placemats. You might like the dark blue glassware. On your right a 4-drawer silver chest stands under a wall mirror which is flanked by a Roman-style torchere lamp. On a counter, find Franciscan cherry pattern.
On your way to the bedroom, you will encounter an antique period Mission Oak/Art Deco floor mirror with 4 sets of clothes hooks. On the hooks hang two formerly very expensive black leather coats. One is reversible mink/leather. The bedroom is dominated by an antique brass bed that has been extended to accommodate a queen-size mattress (practically new). We also have three brand new sets of queen-size sheets/pillow cases for sale. We have cleaned the bathroom, in fact the entire apartment, and put in it a brand new set of leopard skin-style bath accessories and a small collection of yellow rubber ducks. You might also like the 4-tile framed floral artwork we hung in there.
If you have a large family or often have a lot of people around dinnertime, this will be your opportunity to purchase six ladderback chairs in the kitchen -- practically new. Note on the wall behind the table a RARE framed watercolor of picnickers at Wolf Trap. If you ever picnicked there before a performance, this will bring back memories. You will discover a lot of new cookware and small kitchen appliances.
The surprise in the library is the antique one-piece stepback cabinet that has been painted various colors to create a Santa Fe-style piece of furniture. The yellow chair to its right complements the cabinet. Who of you will take home the antique shelf clock? It took several shelves to put out all of the 12-person place settings plus auxiliary pieces of the Noritake "Sheridan" pattern. In the library you will find the first of over 800 books. We have amalgamated books from four clients in order to offer you a variety of topics, both fiction and nonfiction. A few are collectable leatherbounds. A few are vintage children's books with highly collectible pictures. Note in particular the 1913 first edition "Mother Goose" with illustrations by Rackham. We also have one shelf of DVDs and CDs. Some CDs are in German, others in Spanish. You might enjoy perusing one or two books while relaxing on a sofa or chair and enjoying our classical music station 90.9FM.
