Items of Value, Inc
Description & Details
For those of you who keep wondering who writes our sale announcements, it is me, Jerry Ford. Thank you for finding them enticing because that is the point of writing them. We have some very enticing items in this present sale as well. Although the sale does not have a mesmerizing number of items like you saw in last weekend's showroom sale, we agreed to do this sale because it was a relatively quick setup, meaning that getting the house and items ready to show you did not take long, and it includes a good variety of items. Thank you also for enjoying (at least usually) the background music we play. It is all part of creating a good selling atmosphere.
All of the items in this sale are native to the house, meaning that everything we are offering was already in the house, so that we did not need to augment what was there. You will find a surprising variety of items because they represent items from three generations of family ownership. A lot of the newer items are virtually brand new, still in the box. We are told that many were purchases or gifts never used. So, you will particularly enjoy the basement room, which looks more or less like a store following our setup with many items on tables and racks.
On top of the list is an antique map of Scandinavia, which you will find hanging to the left of the fireplace in the living room. Not only is it in very good condition, it dates from the mid 1600s, probably 1666, by the Dutch cartographer Frederick de Wit (1630-1706), done in Amsterdam. Note the bright handcoloring of the figures in the cartouche in the bottom right corner. Going to the other end of our time range, you will be enthralled by the molded plastic tissue holder with bathroom fixtures in front. Each fixture has a red button that makes the sound of the item when pressed. We have never seen anything like this -- truly a collector's item for those who like that sort of thing. For color alone, you may be dazzled by the colored light pods on the extremely heavy floor lamp to the right of the fireplace. Another floor lamp with white light pods stand on the opposite side of the living room between the dark brown sofa and a pair of end tables with gallery top rail. There you will find a pair of Chinese hand-painted bird figures as well as 3 small inlaid soapstone boxes.
Behind the large recliner near the far end of the living room, look for the round table hiding in the back corner. We have displayed on the mantle top wood items including an apple, toy truck. Also there is an iridescent purple/blue glass apple. The second round table in the living room is in the opposing corner to the right of 2 showcases we have filled with pieces of Towle "Old Master" sterling silver flatware, MANY small silver collector spoons, and costume jewelry. Special items in the showcases include the silver and copper overlay on round brass dish with Arabic calligraphic symbols, the sterling tea strainer bowl, and the sterling handled tea strainer.
Upon entering you already walked on one of four handwoven rugs. Others you see on the first floor are a colorful hall runner, ones in the living room and dining room. You will find more upstairs. If you decide to turn right into the dining room, you will see the table set with antique white dinnerware. More pieces of that set are on the long folding side table we set up in one corner. Another corner shows off a diminutive white showcase with goldtone trim. We have a working key for this cabinet. You will not notice the large elaborate wall mirror there until you are ready to go into the study or the kitchen, so remember to turn around and look back. We can lend you a tape measure to note dimensions to see where it would fit in your home. The dinnerware is completed by Cristal d'Arque stemware, with more pieces to the set on the top shelf of the china cabinet.
A lot of overflow items we have put on shelves in the study for lack of space elsewhere. You will enjoy poking through items on the shelves. The kitchen is very bright when the sun shines. There you will find a lot more items placed on or in oak cabinet and cart, plus baskets on the lidded bench. Looking through the sliding patio doors you will see outdoor furniture for sale: hammock, folding chairs, a round metal fire pit (in need of replacement screened dome). If you think that winter is not over yet, you may wish to purchase the snowblower in the front of the house, or the power washer to plan on using to clean up after spring has sprung. There you will also find bicycles.
If you are re-inspired to cultivate the macho look, you will find an ample set of exercise/workout equipment in one basement room. Plan on coming with knowledgeable personnel to take apart the large workout system, or 2 strong people to take the other equipment up the stairs. In that same room you will find a set of 4 oak Windsor chairs and 2 bins of beanie babies, also a sectional sofa just right for your kids to lounge around or jump on.
The larger basement room you might spend a long time in. The pool table is for sale, although we have piled on top of the protective cover a lot of boxes of Christmas ornaments, Halloween items, party items. One of you will enjoy buying the horrific Halloween mask. We have gathered the vintage LPs into 2 plastic crates on one table, video tapes on another, and piled the numerous CDs high on a desk against the far wall. The upright freezer is for sale as well as snowboard, skis, ski poles, nylon folding chairs, folding dog kennel, 2 plastic pet carriers, hanging macrame plant pot holders. On the shelves you will find games, books, gadgets. Be sure to open the doors of the 2 plastic cabinets to find more. The plastic shelving and the plastic cabinets are for sale. To get there you already had to walk around the twin-size tester bed which is in very good condition. Also for sale in that room is a LARGE chrome wine bottle rack and 2 high-seat metal chairs. Be sure to look down and under tables for electric motor, small electric tools, and many other items in boxes that we had no other place to put.
If the rooms you are trying to get into are too crowded with people, go on upstairs. At the top of the stairs, observe original colored bar artwork by George Phillips Odom Jr (1941-2010). Not only an artist, he is known for his mathematical research on the "golden ring". Other framed prints are in the three bedrooms. The front corner bedroom contains a 4-poster double-size bed, highboy, kneehole desk. Of special interest to you may be the emerald green-upholstered window bench or the diminutive white brocade kidney-shape seat. Vintage furniture there includes the Japanese hand-painted round tripod table to the right of the bed and the blue cotton "sling seat" chair with iron frame. Enjoy going through that closet for clothes, shoes, belts. The back corner bedroom is where we set up 2 tables to display the best of the many hand bags, with overflow on the bed. An LP turntable is part of the audio set there. In the closet you will find 2 vintage red/silver Christmas trees and more clothes.
All of the furniture in the master bedroom is for sale: 4-poster bed, tall dresser, long dresser with mirror, night stands, writing desk accompanied by upholstered stool. We set up 2 more tables to hold the bed covers. Note the rugs on the floors, also for sale. Out of place but part of the family inheritance is an antique mirrored dressing stand, sitting on the long dresser. Note also the "touch lamp" which gives a light blue light.
So, come for another enjoyable Items of Value sale. PLEASE bring paper shopping bags, plastic bags, and small boxes to contribute to the sale as we are running low on these. We depend on dedicated customers to keep us supplied with these. Dwight Carter, who normally cashiers our sales, made a one-hour "guest appearance" at last weekend's showroom sale. He may appear again at this one for a short while. He is recuperating from his third back surgery.
