A Perchtenlauf Celebration headdress. This headdress is worn at pagan German/Bavarian festival celebrated around the Christmas holidays. In part this character is related to Krampus. If you are interested please google (Perchtenlauf). This mask is carved from wood and adorned with wool and goat horns. In particular this one is in the more traditional styles of the headdress for the holiday festival. This particular one was probably created in 1945. Size H27xW28xD25, The horns are attached to a wooden piece underneath the wool so that they can be removed when storing the headdress. This is a sensational example of a pagan festival still practiced in parts of Germany. It is an amazing cultural artifact.Random collectibles available at the estate sale.
