Items of Value, Inc
Description & Details
If you ever were unsure what "vintage" means when it comes to the age of items, you will have it very clearly registered in your mind after you have been at this sale. Despite what the dictionary says, "vintage" means something that you may have a vague memory of seeing in your parents' or grandparents' homes. This house abounds in vintage items, predominantly kitchen ware followed by glassware and ceramics. We are selling off a large collection of these. For fun, see if you can identify all of the items in the photos we are publishing as part of this sale announcement.
Much of the vintage glassware is colored, offering items in yellow, blue, orange, red, turquoise. Some tumblers have red/yellow/green stripes. The mid 20th century glass drink cups in the spherical chrome holder with center pump dispenser have different colors. You will find an orange drinking straw dispenser as well as two orange mixing bowls with wheat sheaf design. You will find Depression glass items in pink and citrine, also a partial set of ruby red glass bowls and plates. The three 1975 ceramic donkey pitchers on the fireplace mantle are in three colors. The political campaign buttons going back to FDR have a red rim band. The early 20th century Roseville pot, marked 1884 on the bottom, shows pink lily-of-the-valley against grayish blue background. We have put vintage table cloths and other textiles on the sofa in the living room for you to sort through.
You will get a kick out of seeing the variety of vintage toasters. You will be surprised at the various styles of clear glass citrus fruit squeezers. Some people call these "lemon juicers". Look at the early can openers, bottle openers, hand mixers. A complement to souvenir cups and saucers stating various place names are envelope openers, of which we have two. By the way, how close in time would you date the Lana Turner coloring book that appears as our lead photo? It was 1947. How old were you then? The "Little Mother" child's sewing machine is like new and is accompanied by its original box. The souvenir cup and saucer from New York City depict the Statue of Liberty on the side of the cup and the Empire State Building on the saucer. The ruby flashed souvenir mug from Atlantic City is dated 1896, so it is beyond vintage being an antique.
To what time period would you date the pink ceramic trays and dishes? What date would you put on the square ruby-flashed lidded pedestal candy jar? See if you can discover the tin lidded syruper that has a blue ceramic body. When do you suppose someone took a trip to Mexico by "motor car" and came back with a Mexican cup and saucer? The Mexican handwoven textile is a little more recent. We have washed it, along with many other items that have accumulated decades of dust, to get them ready for sale. Moving further ahead in time, what time period would you date the Red Skins tumblers now that they have become historic? Also now part of American history are memorabilia we have for sale from the beginning of the gay rights movement. You may also like one or more Green Bay Packers memorabilia.
Other special items to note in this sale are the metal campaign lapel clip pins and buttons that span a few decades, a matched pair of ruby-cut-to-clear converted oil lamps on square white marble bases, Firestone glass ashtray set into a miniature rubber tire, Brownie camera marked "No.3A Folding Brownie", man on the moon collector plate in box. Be sure to stand in the basement bathroom to simply experience being there surrounded by red velvetine wall paper, looking at the gray formica counter with aluminum strip edging.
For furniture, we offer you a vintage locking showcase in the dining area, vintage barrister bookcase in the basement. If you are interested in "retro" furniture, you may take home some or all of the teak dining chairs, the teak 2-door bar, the telephone table/chair. There are two round oak dining tables and chairs, also two fine cherry (?) bookcases flanking the upstairs fireplace. In the basement you will find a vintage school desk, a slightly less vintage school desk with writing arm, a Singer sewing machine in plastic case, a low square table of variously colored ceramic squares.
This sale also has a large variety of framed items. They include a few prints by Mel Hunter, who was very collectible at one time. Above the two showcases in the living room are two framed black/white photos, signed by the photographer, one with Bill Clinton, one with Hillary Clinton. Very colorful prints include "The Garden Room" by Lynn Meiner, "Marilyn" [Marilyn Monroe] by F. Beck dated 1988, "Drafting table in Fall" dated 1986 by A. F. Chuck. Several of you will be extremely interested in at least one of the four "Varga Girls" prints dating back to World War II, of which one features a female who is nearly busting out of her military uniform.
The relatively new items we have for sale are 4 unworn men's black leather jackets (hanging in the closet of the first bedroom on your left), three cast bronze female statues (near the upstairs fireplace), electric saw table, clean plastic storage drawer units, Asian-style folding rice paper screen.
Please bring empty boxes and canvas satchels with you to pack up your purchases. We will be limiting entry to the sale to 12 people at a time due to the size of the house and the quantity of items packed inside. Please be patient waiting outside.
