Description & Details
This is week #2 of three weeks of sales we plan for this client. The third sale is planned for the end of November. We are doing another sale in Burke before then. So, please do not confuse dates and places. The announcement for the Burke sale is already published and we will add more description and photos for that sale later.
For this second week, we have brought down from the attic as much as possible to display on the first floor and basement levels. We were also able to open one more bedroom out of three on the main floor. Items that we are adding for this second week will not be discounted. Items remaining from the first week of sale we will be discounting 20%, 30%, and 40% throughout the three days of this second sale.
You will discover many more books, more framed artwork, and many more loose prints/etchings/engravings. We took out of the attic 7 clocks, most needing some repair. They are both mantle and wall clocks. Discoveries we made include several nice Delftware items, children's toys including a "Recto" metal building pieces set, child's zither, and puzzles, a Beatrix Potter figurine, a cypress "knee", a vintage picnic basket with 2 handles and hinged lid, an antique round ceramic serving tray set into a metal frame, and a few pieces of vintage aluminum ware. Aluminum is becoming more collectible because the pieces were well made of a material new for home wares and now are historically significant.
An exciting find from the attic was a large antique oval English serving tray of mahogany with marquetry center and brass handles. Another item that will interest you French connaisseurs is the large framed map of Paris. You may want this map, which is half a century old, anticipating the summer Olympics in Paris scheduled for 2024. One more vintage item we found in excellent condition is a lady's black domed hat with black feather. Another item seldom found in good condition is a large ceramic bathing bowl with brown transfer-printed floral designs. In cleaning out one bedroom closet, we discovered a brass samovar and accompanying tray, both in very good condition.
The amount of early 20th century American glassware is considerable. Patterns include "optic", hobnail, and "Candlewick". We brought down from the attic several large pieces of "optic". Note as well several pieces of colored glass: amber, green, citrine, ruby red. All of these we washed for you -- what a job!
