The historic Ellen Glasgow House will be the site of an extraordinary Estate Sale opening on Thursday, April 8 at 10 AM and running daily through Sunday, April 11 from 10 AM to 4 PM.
The house was built in 1841 by tobacconist David Branch in the early Greek Revival style and is on the National Historic Register. The writer, Ellen Glasgow, moved there with her family in 1876 when she was 13 years old. Her novel “In This Our Life” won the Pulitzer Prize in 1941. Glasgow entertained many prominent people in her home, including Gertrude Stein and Margaret Mitchell.
The sale will feature traditional furniture in the Federal, Queen Anne, Chippendale, Empire, Louis XV, and Continental styles. In addition, the owners’ eclectic collection includes an interesting mixture of mid-century modern, Hollywood Regency, art furniture, paintings and decorative objects.
An added feature will be a Parisian-style Flea Market in and around the Carriage House named whimsically, The Gertrude Stein Flea Market.
Work by regional artists such as Steven Glass, A. B. Jackson, Ann Lyne, Alan Rosenbaum, Nancy Witt, Mary Lou Deal and Tom Chenoweth will be featured.
Designers and manufacturers of international interest in the sale include Charles Eames, Geoffrey Harcourt for Artifort, Dakota Jackson, Silas Seandel, Kittinger, Baker, Henredon, Maison Jansen, Paul Mayen, Leon Rosen for Pace, Charles Limbert, and Arne Vodder.
Designer and vintage clothing in the sale includes Prada, Versace, Dior, Yves St. Laurent, La Croix, Ungaro, and Armani, along with jewelry and accessories.
We will regularly be adding photos of more items up until the opening of the sale, so keep checking back.
